McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer
@mahgister Right on cue! LOL! Love it. However, once the room is optimized, then it does come down to the gear. As we've agreed on another thread -- two equally good rooms (equally optimized) will be different if the gear is different.  Many peo...
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer
Mikey has already helped me with getting my system to sound better with my current amp. I’m upgrading my amp and preamp, going with NAT Audio gear from him. He brings tremendous value and only cares about helping people get the best sonics as the...

@paradisecom "random doorknob" -- LOL. Stealing that one.

@oldhvymec  Apparently,  you're just one of those audiophiles -- or someone with a lawyer's office -- who is just looking to impress people with looks.  I'm kidding you, of course. Totally respect your opinion and take your appreciation of Mac ge...
Speaker pairings for Sprout 100 for music listening in medium sized room
Thanks! I saw some Sonus Fabers near him, too.
The Cable Co
+1 @soix  I have to be honest, every time I've approached a cable purchase, I looked at CableCo and then...found it used. The notion of paying $600 for a cable when I can find it used for $250...no customer service can beat that. I do appreciate ...
Question about Class A
Did a little surfing.  If it were me, and the power was sufficient, I'd try find a nice tube preamp, then try the Schiit first. Then, look at: Sugden https://www.ebay.com/itm/255374915799?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=...
Best Bang for the Buck Upgrade
+1 @djones51  @mofojo I went to see a photo of your room but couldn't find it. Audio in a shared space is tough. After learning how to measure room reflections and SPL curves, I cannot imagine making major changes in some areas without some esti...
Systems over $100k
I’m curious as to whether anyone has (or had) a $100k+ system for whom an upgrade entailed lowering the $$ value of the system. For example, you found that some piece of equipment was not right for the system and a lower priced unit actually incr...
Best Bang for the Buck Upgrade
I was going to say speakers, but your last sentence tells me that you have a nice connection with them. The comment that you don’t think you’ve maxed out their potential indicates to me that you suspect that better amplification might be the ticke...
Looking for the best power conditioner or regenerator or any product like it for under 2k.
@clearthink Really don't follow your comment or how it relates to my relatively innocuous and demonstrably true statement (about opinions varying about various power products).
Modded Orchid MHDT vs. Holo Audio May DAC
@sgreg1    Here's the listening list. No rock or heavy rock. Didn't listen to the Holo Spring, only the Holo May. Good luck! Regula Muhlmann -- Vorrei spiegarvi, oh Dio (mozart, Kammerorchester basel) Barb Jungr -- Who do you love (Walking in ...
Modded Orchid MHDT vs. Holo Audio May DAC
@jjss49 as @artemus_5 says, holo may is 6 grand, a modded mhdt orchid about $1700-1800 (btw, what tube did you use in orchid?) -- may should indeed be a lot better... be a real problem if it weren’t Understood. But just to repeat the reasonin...
Adding a third REL subwoofer
FWIW, dialing in subs beyond 1 was very difficult. I realized that variable phase is very important, and many REL's do not have that -- they have 0 or 180. Perhaps a sub that does might be something to consider. Just a thought.
