Is it possible to find a good DAC for under $50, 000?
I don't doubt reviewer is hearing exactly what he claims, he has access to far more equipment at all price levels than any of us, and he can evaluate all these components at his leisure in an optimized system and room. The issues he's speaking to...
Is it possible to find a good DAC for under $50, 000?
Kind of posted this as a joke. Most took it seriously. Interesting fact, in and of itself. I'm pretty sure there are no noticeable differences above a fairly modest price point. And, for any who claims they can hear a difference, I'd want to see...
Why Does Expensive Gear Seems To Sound Better?
Henry David Thoreau would disagree. Indeed, he only listened to his mother's stereo when he was visiting her for lunch.
Bad idea?
I did that with Analysis Plus cables and had the company do retermination. I'm selling them now for much less than 1k if you're interested, DM me.

"audiophiles listen to their equipment"
Beyond this why does someone else care about mine or anyone's listening preferences. Good question.  I think it's because people who are caught in the endless upgrade cycle need a touchstone to help skyhook them out of it. That skyhook is, "Th...
Does loudness play a part in your appreciation?
Am I missing something? Audio rigs produce microcosms of live music. There's no alternative, unless your living room is the size of the venue. Or consider how loud a trumpet is when played by a real person. Do you want that in your living room? I ...
"audiophiles listen to their equipment"
No one wonders how we can BOTH think about the taste of our food and then go back to enjoying it. So why is this such an issue for sound and music? Honestly, it's only a dilemma for those in the grip of nervous audiophile syndrome. The rest of ...
Does loudness play a part in your appreciation?
I wonder if the poll was conducted among classical music listeners if the results would be the same. Well, if they were looking at the chart I posted, they would see that 70 db is well below average for what instruments actually produce.  For...
Does loudness play a part in your appreciation?
Higher volumes can make things more involving, yes. Depending on the components in the system (I switch things around), they need more ooomph to get momentum, come into balance. Regarding the idea that 70 db is loud, here’s a chart: Environmenta...
Best Audiophile Album in terms of Dynamic Range and Mastering Quality?

Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?

Balancing "compelling sound" and euphonic sound
@magon  Thanks. When you say transient attacks were a bit too powerful I assume they were too loud for the musical context, including the piano passages. That helps a lot and I found that happening with a Class D amp I was testing out.
Re; Dynamics, Class D vs tubes…
@dekay I learned that word from a master of pleasure: “Beauty belongs to the sphere of the simple, the ordinary, whilst ugliness is something extraordinary, and there is no question but that every ardent imagination prefers in lubricity, the ext...
Balancing "compelling sound" and euphonic sound
I’m not sure what you mean by "overactive transients." I understand the general issue you’re talking about, though.  I do believe the euphonic qualities are not necessarily opposed to resolution and crisp dynamics. Dynamics are a function of the...
