Direct Drive TT...vintage era....sleepers.... JVC QL-7 or QL-A7 for integrated turntable. For just the motor unit, then TT-71. Easy to use, great sound, and very reasonable second hand price. Sleeper! _____
What would be the best "attainable" Denon turntabl The DP-500M is not a bad table at all. In fact, I like it better than the Technics SL1200. The tonearm in the DP-500M is a joke, a lot of plastic flimsy parts. The table, however, is well built, elegant looking(higher WAF than most), and has very ...
12 inch Graham Phantom I remember reading somewhere that mistakes in setting up a 12 inch arm as compared to a 9 inch arm will be more "severe". I forget where I read it but it seems to make sense. A 12 inch arm is less tolerant of poor setup than a 9 inch.It started fr...
12 inch Graham Phantom It's not the length. It's how you use it.... if that's what she said. _____
magnetic drive turntables Teres, you are right about it being more like a double compliant system, closer to belt-drive than direct-drive. I guess I was intrigued by the idea of the platter being center driven. Using the same set up and if I replace the motor pod with a st...
Nude Turntable Project (It looks similar to a Denon DP-80 but I don't know if Denon made for Victor.)JVC/Victor was one of the three major turntable manufactures, along with Technics and Sony, that made their turntables completely on their own. Other brands such as Deno...

SUT shootout Can someone tell me how to quantify soundstage or tell a good soundstage from a bad one in the reproduction of a recording? Why is a "huge" or "wide" soundstage preferable to a narrow soundstage? What is this obsession about soundstage? With imagi...
What is the best knot for a thread drive belt ? Now, that knot makes more sense to me. Thanks! _____
What is the best knot for a thread drive belt ? Doesn't this "blood knot" create a bump on all sides? And how smooth is it when pass through the small diameter of a pulley? I haven't tried it; I guess I will find out. _____
What vintage Technics tables are best? Corby, the JVC QL-5 is nice but not as good as the QL-7. The later automatic tables that uses coreless motor like the QL-Y66F, QL-Y7, QL-F6, are just as good and added a touch of smoothness in the texture and presentation. The QL-7 has better driv...
What vintage Technics tables are best? For mid-priced Technics, I prefer the SP-15, SL-150MK2, SL-M3 over the SL-1200Mk2 because they ALL have better platters. For mid-priced Japanese direct-drive turntables, I prefer the JVC QL-7(TT-71) over ALL the above Technics. _____ |
