Turntable speed accuracy
My Dual turntable has a built in AC light bulb to check the strobe marks on the platter rim. It drifts over time while the KAB strobe light is stationary. So there is a discrepancy between using AC line frequency and quartz locked frequency. Jeez,...
Turntable speed accuracy
All I know is that the wavering on the decaying note of a piano is REALLY annoying and that usually happens on belt-drive suspended turntables with stretchy belt. I may not know what I like but I know what I don't like. _______
Turntable speed accuracy
Don_c55: "Just buy a strobe disc and illuminate it with a light bulb. The 60 Hz AC frequency does not fluctuate enough to worry over."I wish that's true but using your method and comparing to a KAB strobe, there is a noticeable visual difference, ...
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS
If you really want a Technics and to improve on the SL-1200Mk2, then get an SL150Mk2. It's an armless table with the same electronics and similar motor from the SP-15, heavier platter that's dynamically balanced. The SP-25 is identical electronica...
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS
Atmosphere: "From the sounds of it, that Dual DD motor is the one to start a new build with... of course, $80 is a nice price of admission :) "I can recommend getting a JVC QL-7 and start modding with that because it's a manual table and the motor...
Best Record You Have Ever heard
"Out To Lunch" by Eric Dolphy on Blue Note. More for the music than it is for sonic. It is Rudy Van Gelder at his best, pristine, full of horn presence and snappy dynamics. RVG is the worst engineer on piano so thank goodness this has no piano an...
Advice on semi-auto turntables?
I love semi-automatic turntables. Actually I like quarter-automatic turntables, that is, the kind automatically lifts the arm at the end of record and stops platter rotation. Here are some recommendations, all under 400 and all direct drive: JVC ...
SAEC 308N vs 308SX
I used to own a regular 308 and a 308SX, but not at the same time, if memory serves me well. All these suffixes of N, L, SX are confusing. But I remember it visually and the counterweight is heavier with a bigger diameter chunk at the back. I thin...
Graham Phantom Supreme?
Dertonarm: "In an uni-pivot like the Phantom the bearing has no off-set - just the mounting area has."Actually there is an offset angle at the bearing with semi-unipivot designs like Phantom (or Basis Vector, Continuum Cobra/Copperhead, etc.. in t...
Graham Phantom Supreme?
Dertonarm: "As I said: look careful to the off-set of the headshell mounting area. It is correct only for the original 9" version."I think what you meant is that the offset angle at the BEARING was originally designed for a 9" armwand. Matching be...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Hi Chris, Hi Chris, Hi Chris, Hi Chris, Hi Chris, Hi Chris,Hi Chris, Hi Chris, Hi Chris, Hi Chris! (Now, that was easy.) I really like your spiked SP10. I think that makes a lot more sense to me than just letting the bottom cover sitting on footer...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Halcro, I was just browsing around in the Canuck Audio Mart member gallery and found these pictures that reminded me of your system. There's even a YouTube video that he says "showing Symposium Rollerblock Jrs supporting an Isolated Turntable Arm...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Halcro, have you tried something like this, using long spikes, on your TT101?_______

Kuzma 4Point Tri-Planar
Ptmconsulting: "That is one strange looking counterweight. It seems as though they are not only getting the center mass of the counterweight below the pivot point, but also putting it as close to the pivot point as possible, even next to it so to ...
