Newbie question: Amplifiers, Volume, Clipping? Hopefully Almarg will answer these questions. If I would, my answers might be in error, and confusing.
Newbie question: Amplifiers, Volume, Clipping? One thing that may be a problem is the age of your speakers. If the voice coils have been warm in the past from loud volume, they may fail quicker than a new pair. The glue in them could be getting weak just from age also.On the tube amp clipping ...
Setting tube bias One quick guess would be a KT88 may have shorted from getting moved, or just its time.
Integrated amp and low sensitivity speakers I'm with the buy speakers first, group. I've had plenty of speakers over the years that needed more power than I had on hand. I was still happy with their sound, and a lot more so, when I got them a bigger amp. Dealers will use larger amps than ne...
Playing European TT in US ? After looking at your table on the net, it appears it does have a synchronous motor. That means the AC power frequency (Hz) controls the speed. France has 50 cycles (Hz), the US has 60 cycles (Hz), so this would be the first thing (60 cycles or Hz...
Playing European TT in US ? The pulley may be the problem. You may have a 50 cycle(Hz) pulley, and need a 60 cycle (Hz) pulley. If it has a synchronous motor, this different motor pulley would make a speed difference. Check into a 60 cycle motor pulley, if this is the case.
Re: differences in tuners Yes, if the stations you listen to give good quality sound. The tuners can vary more than a CD player, or turntable. They have their own sound characteristics that can give a wide sound stage, narrow soundstage, and an endless list that can make w...
True Headphone AMP? 05-10-11: Bjb_nvaThere are a number of headphones still in production that can be run directly off a speaker amp. I've been in this hobby for decades and can say I never seen, or heard of a pair of headphones made to hookup directly to a power amp...
True Headphone AMP? I've done this in the past to check for sound characteristics at low volumes. This was to see if what I was hearing was caused by the amp, or speakers. I would not want all of these amplification stages altering the sound in my headphones though, ...
Pop heard when stylus dropped into lead-in groove I know it's hard to break habits, but since I was young, I always turned the volume down to a low level before cuing up, or down. It can save your speakers or something else down the road.
A warning to all about HUGE Subwoofers Just don't move to my neighborhood. WE have big guns, and know how to use them.
Influence of DC offset on bias I rescind my post. It's in error for the purpose of this thread.
Influence of DC offset on bias My above post would be for tube amps in general. I just noticed a past thread of yours referring to SS amps.
Influence of DC offset on bias I'm guessing your referring to the DC voltage bias measurement used by a lot of amps. The DC voltage is most likely the difference (drop) across a resistor tied to the tubes plate. This is an easy way to measure the plate current milliamps load on...
Braiding vs side by side? I think leaving them separate would let them act as a radio antenna, and may pickup signal interference also. |
