DIY Cable: Cotton
Well, if you are using copper, then the cotton will not seal it against oxidation. Loose fitting cotton on a conductor will probably sound great, but as it ages, the tarnish will adversely affect the sound. Silver, now that may be a different stor...
French Speakers?
Can't speak for Focal, but my French Triangles are very capable, musical, and lovable performers. Also rumored to be bright by some, but thats not how I hear them.
Does mfg's name/model affect your opinion of sound
Absolutely not. I constantly find lower priced stuff that I prefer (thank goodness). Even in the same manufacturers line. Older Classe preamp is a good example. I greatly prefered the DR4($1600.) to the big fancy dual chassis DR6($3500. or more I ...
platform under NAS Spacedeck
Yes, I used a 4 inch thick Mapleshade base. Huge improvement over the stock MDF (I think) base.
Ahmad Jamal: Blue Moon
Don't know blue moon, But I will look for it. He is fantastic. A very unique style. Also check out "Live from the Montreal Jazz festival 1988" on LP. That's Canada, not Montreau. Awesome playing and with a great fretless Bass player and percussion...
Character of EL-84 amps
I use EL84's daily. Love my vintage Fisher amps. Had Cary with KT88's...sold. Adcom 565's...sold. This tube can have a special character. Light, airy, but not lean. Fast, stop on a dime speed when needed, but also able to linger long enough to sho...
Nottingham Space Deck owners - help needed
Nottingham included the Polaris with my Spacedeck. Not sure what alignment scheme it uses as I always used the DB Systems protractor instead. Always yielded great glitch free sound.
Tube guy gets a B&K: tubes vs solid state
Interesting observasions. Perhaps what you need, aside from better cabling, is a different tube amp and/or preamp. 8B is no slouch, but how about the EL84 tube. Sometimes those bigger tubes can seem plodding, even sluggish and sleepy despite their...
MARTIN LOGAN TRIPLES THEIR PANEL REPLACEMENT
Yes, what is/was the cost?
MARTIN LOGAN TRIPLES THEIR PANEL REPLACEMENT
Thank you Mateored, lets keep politics in this audio forum! Obama was handed an impossible mess to clean up. It hasn't been easy, and it sure ain't pretty. My full time brick and morter business grossed $54.00 this week but I am not blaming Obama ...
Favorite album art?
It's gotta be Big Brother and Janis's "Cheap Thrills" By R. Crumb There were also a few New Riders of the Purple Sage that were simply beautiful. Or, how about the Dead's "Aoxomoxoa"? I know, I know, My sixties are showing.
Equipment Protection, Monitoring Electricity
Look, to put yourself at ease with this, there is a simple solution that you can handle yourself more precisely and for much less money than involving an electrician. Go to Radio Shack, Home Depot, Hardware Store, or etc. and buy a decent, but goo...
Upgrade rainmakers to hawks, clues, tekton or fritz?
Heard the "Clue" yet? I'm dieing to hear about them despite what Plato sayes about their questionable specs. Very interesting design approach with their close to wall mounting and all.
Repair Exemplar 3910 or ???
Consider yourself lucky that you have a player for which the laser actually is still available. Those Exemplar players are very special and certainly worth the cost of repair at only $200.
Paul Grzybek Tube Audio Design Passing
Thanks Zmrs13, so nice to hear a little bit more about him. It personifies him in my mind. I can see him behind the counter at Bizzy Bee. Anyone else have something to share? Lets use this forum to celebrate his short life and audio accomplishments.
