Who listens only to vinyl?
My "good" CD player (Proceed) died 10 years ago. Haven't replaced it yet because LP's keep me so musically involved. Fed up with the constant changes in Digital along with the rising cost of really good players, I decided to concentrate on just im...
Need advice on a pair of bookshelf speakers
Used Triangle Comete's could save you a bunch of money and they actually will work well on a bookshelf. Perfect for your tube amp too.
CDP/laser repair in Tampa bay area
Well said Polk432.
Duped again
Never "fell" for the Wall reissues, but, I gotta agree with actuserus about Mothership. Beautiful presentation and boxing, even my non audiophile friends were impressed. But, I was very disappointed in the sound. Mostly lifeless. Songs from Led Ze...
Help with turntable response anomaly
You can easily experiment with VTA to see of that is your problem. Adding platter mats is the same as lowering the arm. Even layers of posterboard etc. would suffice for this. I tried 3 leather coasters once and it actually improved the sound. Yes...
Belt noise on my AR turntable
It is often recommended to use talc on the AR belt. Not sure if this will cure your problem, never tried it myself. Clean belt first and place in a container of talc. Shake up and let excess fall off before reinstalling. Also, look at the sub plat...
Maggie owners opinions wanted
I thought I heard that Magnepan would no longer rework the 111 and 111a's. Can anyone shed some light on this info?
Best Jazz pianist
I should correct something I said earlier. I said the Duke could swing, but I meant the Count, as in Basie. Not that the Duke doesn't swing, just not on the piano. Hard to believe I got them mixed up.
Good Trade?
I don't know how either of them sounds, but isn't that Fosgate a $2500.00 item? Seems like you are at least getting the better deal economically. I believe that would buy about three or so Projects!
The Emperor DAC has no Clothes
This surprises me because we have to remember that a DAC also contains a "linestage" at the output that can make or break the sound. This is usually where the tubes are in the circuit of a tubed DAC. Sometimes it is as simple as a no gain cap and ...
Best Jazz pianist
How can there really be a "best"? Oscar Peterson? Benny Green? Bill Evans? Duke sure could swing. One I have really been enjoying lately but don't hear too much about is Ahmad Jamal. He might be my "best" when the mood strikes me. He has a differe...
24 feet DIN to XLR phono cable for Graham Phantom?
I'm not sure you can even do this. Those phono signals are extremely tiny and don't do well with long cables. Are you using this long a cable already? If you are in the Graham Phantom world then you likely will be using a LOMC which makes things e...
can we still sort by zip code in items for sale?
Yeah, we used to be able to by going from our "My Page" I haven't found a way to do so since the "New" Audiogon. I will say though that it is nice to be able to view the for sale ads from newest to oldest. Before we were limited to "New Two Days" ...
Technics and Threshold?
Who sells a Threshold anything at a Garage sale? Lucky you!
Old tapes reveal how BAD FM became
The only stations in my area (southwest Fl.) with good sound are the Listener supported and NPR stations at the bottom of the dial. Not sure exactly what the others do to the music to make it sound so lifeless, but, the difference is obviously app...
