HDCD Decoding ? Your post raises some interesting concerns. I never knew about the attenuation. Always wanted a HDCD player for those Live Dead discs. Hope someone with tech knowledge will chime in on the facts here.
What country still has music? It's nice to know that we have finally reached racial equality. I know this because the White Redneck Boys next door to me only listen to Black Hip Hop and Rap in their pickups.
rewiring preamp will it work Adding a switch to choose between the two outputs would cure the impedance problems. Of course, anything added to the circuit (wire + switch) may degrade the sound ever so slightly. Probably less compromise than an unpredictable impedance mismatch...
End of lp distortion. What does it sound like Some alignment schemes are better than others at reducing end of LP mistracking. I believe the Stephenson specs are intended to address this. Not sure what protractor you are using or what specs your Mint will be based on.
My Dynavector 10 X 5 Stylus fell off now what? I wouldn't exactly call the 10X5 garbage, but I do agree that this may be a good time to look at a 20X or something else like a Ortophon Black. Yes, it is money, but, go ahead, live a little. Maybe you are lucky, forced to upgrade against your wil...
Reterminating Kimber 12TC Speaker cable: possible? You couldn't find an easier cable to terminate. True, there are a lot of conductors to deal with, but, there is nothing high tech about the wire itself. Just traditional med. guage solid core. I have had to re terminate cables with a gazillion sma...
Can a $3K table be among the best out there? I think whats happening here is that those products are such good "all arounders" Yes, you can pay more money for bigger bass for example, or maybe a slightly quieter noise floor,(though with the Well Tempered, I'd be surprised) or any number of t...
L.P. compatibility issues? Hearing this kind of stuff just reminds me that I'm glad I am not willing to go there...yet. And it seems to get even more complicated as time goes by. Should be the opposit.
UPS Air- Worth it? The UPS 2 day is very expensive. I often need to use 3 day select here at work and things always arrive on time for a much more fair (but not cheap) price. This is usually from the other side of the country too, Ca. to Fl. It's only one extra day ...
Fremer lays an Ostrich egg... Just more solid state amps that sound so "neutral" you simply cannot enjoy your music collection. When you sell every CD that doesn't sound good through these, you may have nothing left.
Tube Cage On or Off. Does it Make any Difference? My power amps sound better without cages. Don't know if it is a resonance, heat, or shielding thing. Most likely resonance.
Does anyone still miss the old Audiogon format? Who doesn't. I think you are going to find the comments unanimous. Getting too much like ebay.
tube gear vs solid state...cable effectiveness Yes, cables remain very important with both SS and Tubes. With tubes though, alot of the annoyances involved with HiFi seem to disappear or at least diminish. Things like only sounding good at 3:00 in the morning, or when the fridge is off. Or sou...
Review: Clearaudio Unify Tonearm Glad to hear this "low cost" unipivot is giving good high end sound. Lets face it, tonearms have become very expensive these days. The Morch UP4 I sold years ago cost this much. Now it is double that price. Very sad for the analog nut on a budget....
Singer sounds lower than ear level, help raise it Do you have a rack of equipment between the speakers? That will affect center image and height placement of a singer. The components will reflect sound to your ears, anchoring the vocals at their level. If you don't, then good, use that center spa... |
