Subwoofer placement questions
The signal travels down the speaker wire at at least 650,000,000 feet per second. I figured 2/3 the speed of light but it may be faster depending on your cables. It would take the signal about 20 nanoseconds (.00000002 seconds) to travel the extra...
Busted Phillips Screws
Be careful if you do decide to drill. The metal shavings may be attracted to the speaker magnet. If they get in around the voice coil you could have big trouble.
Is a offer of -20 percent on an OBO ad insulting?
I think sellers like that are being jerks. This has happened to me also. How do you know how low they are willing to go unless you make an offer? This is called negotiation. You can go higher but you can't go down so you have to start low. Maybe t...

Unplug unit. Open unit, locate volune knob, 1st you might try blowing it out with compressed air. Then you might use Caigs Gold or some other contact cleaner, such as Radio Shack's, and spray with that. Also check wire to the control it see if loo...
Reasonable preamps with phono stage
Conrad Johnson PV10B, about $1500 new I believe. Can be had for < $1000. The A version even less.I think you have it backwards. It's not that everyone wants separate phono stages, it's that people without turntables don't want to pay for a prea...
What are ideal impedences between tube and ss?
I think it is the latter. Sensitivity doesn't pertain to your original question. Your setup, like most, is designed to transfer voltage from the pre to the power, not current. Some current will flow. But if the input impedance of the power amp is ...
What are ideal impedences between tube and ss?
Your preamp output impedance is very typical. The input impedance of you amp is on the low side of normal. Typical for a SS amp is 50K and for a tube amp 100K even though some like yours and I believe the Nelson Pass amps are a little lower.A gene...
Listener magazine defunct ??
Just found out Art Dudley has gone over to the dark side, Stereophile.
Stereophile "confirms" Moncrieff's SACD comments ?
If you are going with Bose, I would recommend a 12 pack.
I can't really hear a big difference
I believe the BAT is full of tubes. Maybe they are worn out? Changing tubes can make a huge difference.
Where 2 buy 3x distilled water and 100 alchohol?
Fischer Scientific sells reagant grade methanol for about $20 a liter. http://www.fisherscientific.com We use it to clean optics in lasers. If you know someone who works in a hospital they should be able to get some.
Why do my albums sound better at the end???
Thanks to all for your responses. I have made slight adjustments to tracking force and to the anti skating and this seems to have helped.
Why do my albums sound better at the end???
It is a Wilson Benesch Act 2 table and arm with an Analog cartridge. I set the alignment with the tool that came with the table and compared to a Geodisc, and several 2 point protractors and all seems OK. I used a Stereo Review disc to set antiska...
