Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
^Many huge speakers require very little power and volume for excellent dynamics. This would be glaringly obvious if you were to compare some volume-matched Altecs and some narrow-baffle tower speakers at around 70 db. What you’d find is that the l...
Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
^ There are plenty of large cone drivers can be driven to high levels with low power. Many of the ubiquitous 3-way, narrow baffle, ~$3k towers can do dynamics fairly well, but I haven't come across any that can produce sound with the sheer scale of...
Help: Need Great DAC for Luxman 509u with Revel F50 Speakers System
Look for a silver faced version of the Line Magnetic LM502-CA tube DAC. It would likely provide the sound you seek. I use one with NOS RCA black plates, and the sound is neutral with just a hint of warmth.Note that some versions of this DAC come w...
Ohm 2000s at NY Audio Show
Further evidence that great sound doesn't require a trust fund or 2nd mortgage.I've been having a similar experience with Vandersteen 1Cis; they're silly good for the money. I've heard many 2 to $4K speakers (some highly praised models) recently t...
No frills balanced ss integrated amp?
Sony TA-A1ES
Integrated amp for Klipsch Forte
The Yamaha amps are good with Klipsch, better than many. IME you'd be better off getting a tube amp and adding an external EQ like the new Schiit Loki. Cayin tube amps can be found under $1k, have point to point wiring, and chassis quality that ri...
Arm suggestions to replace Magnepan Unitrac on TD 160 Super
+++ Jelco SA750 D, but make sure the tonearm cable you choose is plenty flexible as to not impede the sub-chassis suspension.
What do you consider the most musical speakers—$15000 & under
@tomcarr, Thanks for the input. I think I'll be keeping the 1Cs for now. They're better than some far more expensive speakers I've auditioned lately and seem to be breaking in well.Wasn't my intent to hijack this thread, back to the main topic. Wh...
What do you consider the most musical speakers—$15000 & under
@ctsooner ,Sometimes I think ignorance is bliss. I'm quite content with the 1ci in most respects but curiosity will probably get the best of me. I really dislike booming bass, and that's my main concern with rear firing woofers.
What do you consider the most musical speakers—$15000 & under
^^ Thanks for the input guys. I might have to move my system into a 12×11 bedroom someday, where the 2Cs would be too much. The 1Cs are a bit on the small side for my current man cave, but so are the Spendors. If I didn't keep reading that 2Cs nee...
What do you consider the most musical speakers—$15000 & under
@hifiman5 ,I am slack jawed by the Vandy 1cis. I ordered them online, expecting to likely return them because I'm used to $4K Spendors. I'm just amazed at what these Vandys can do for the price, and can't imagine how the 7s must sound. Now I have t...
What do you consider the most musical speakers—$15000 & under
I recently picked up a pair of humble Vandersteen 1ci and they're far more musical than any Harbeth I've heard.
$3000 Speaker Search
If you can get the speakers a couple feet away from the walls, you might try the Vandersteen 1ci. I just picked up a pair and I'm amazed at how much better they are than many higher priced speakers I've heard, some of which are on that extensive l...
Speaker Placement - When it's perfect!
It took about 13 months for my main system. I went through the gear merri-go-round for almost a year. My speakers have always been dialed in rather quickly thanks to a little math, manufacturer practices, and not so common sense.Based on the pics ...
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
@biscorbit,The Harbeths are approximately twice the price of Heresys. It's funny how we all hear things differently. While I liked some aspects of the C7s, I much prefer the Heresy IIIs, despite their limitations.
