Harbeth Love and your experiences
I recently picked up some C7ES3s. They're still in the break-in period but I'm not terribly impressed so far. Tone of the midrange is the only immediate   improvement over my previous speakers. The bass is definitely lacking in my somewhat large 2...
getting into vinyl
A Pioneer PLX will wipe the floor with any of the budget Regas, MHs or Pro-Jects, even if it is possibly (no definitive proof) made by Hanpin. Whenever I see this question, I usually recommend getting a table in the > $1200 range. $1200 because...
Magnepan 3.7 - 3.7i owners need help please
Did you place the speakers in the exact position that you had the 3.6s? Tweeter panels in the same orientation? I've heard that Maggies take as much as a couple hundred hours to break-in, though I understand your reservations. Maybe give Wendell a...
Building an all analog system around Magnepan .7 for 4K and under
Another option you might consider is getting one of the new tube preamps from Schiit Audio, like the Frea, then pairing it with a brute SS amp like a used Sunfire. You'd come in at around the same $$$ as a new Sphinx but with more power. I'm a fan...
Salk VS Monitor Audio
I have no doubt that the treble would be superior. I'm a bit more concerned about trading two 6" woofers per speaker for one 7.5" per speaker.
Salk VS Monitor Audio
Thanks for the replies.
Anticables
An engineer would tell you that the only factors that really matter are resistance and shielding, unless the wire is carrying very small current as those produced by phono carts. If you can't hear a difference, you might as well return the Anti Cab...
More from VPI!
$10K for an assemblage of random VPI parts, from turntables that cost less than $5K. Well done VPI...Well done.
Dumb question #643: should speaker cables last a lifetime?
Current cable technology is no better than it was 40 years ago.
Turn table for my kid???
Tboooe,Definitely look into the Denon DP-300F for your price range. It has a built in phono preamp and is probably built better than the AT offerings. Crutchfield recently had them on sale for $200. I agree with Nordicnorm that you'll get the most...
Best sounding turntable and cartridge for $1100
Though the Roundtable might be a good value at $300, I highly doubt it will perform as well as most tables in the $1k range. Since you seem to be looking for new instead of used, I highly recommend trying a Pioneer PLX1000 if you don't have an ave...
Best sounding turntable and cartridge for $1100
Out of curiosity I just checked the MD site and they still have the refurbished Marantz's for $1195.
Best sounding turntable and cartridge for $1100
If I were in your predicament, I'd try to stretch the budget a bit and try the Marantz TT-15S1. They come with a pre mounted Clear Audio Virtuoso cartridge.I think the turntable is actually made by Clear Audio and rebadged as Marantz.I think it's ...
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI
I can't help but wonder what it costs VPI to print their 3D tonearms.
Class "A" sound, as related to Stereophile.
I tend to compare audio classes to automotive classes. One can spend $400K on a Lambo Aventador and take a very fast, thrilling drive around the Nurburgring, or someone can buy a $100K Nissan GTR, and get similar numbers. The drive is just as thril...
