Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy?
The bass was AWOL at 40Hz; a fact I couldn’t live with. Bass may have been AWOL below 40Hz, but are your Focals really better in this regard, or is it just their exaggerated upper bass you’re mistaking for bass depth? The Focals are about 5db down ...
New speakers? No thanks.
I think I’ll just save my pennies, and try to get my wife wasted enough someday to get some new Quatro CTs.  Good plan
Amp - preamp or integrated
So far I had my Vandys 2 sig for over 4 yrs. It seems im ready for a change or at least would be open to listen to others. Heard good things about the magnepans. They seem to require a good source or current which my Rogue CM did not supplied. So ...
Why the facination with integrated amps?
The biggest downside of using an int is the lack of good heat dissipation. Only if it's an integrated with inadequate heatsinking, as is the case with Hegels.
Looking for great tube integrated for Martin Logan Summit X speakers
Looking forward to the results.I agree with tablejockey, graphs are meaningless if you don't like the sound. I've owned/auditioned my share of flat-measuring gear that sounded lifeless and uninspiring. Whichever amp has you jonesing to fire up you...
Looking for great tube integrated for Martin Logan Summit X speakers
@georgehifi brought up some good points. I didn’t bother to look up the real-world efficiency specs of these speakers. If you want tube sound from a solid-state integrated, look into the newer Yamaha MOSFET-based amps. I’ve yet to encounter any oth...
Looking for great tube integrated for Martin Logan Summit X speakers
The Rogue Cronus Magnum II/III has plenty of grunt. Not the quietest integrated out there but probably the most powerful under $5K. I prefer it to many pricier amps I've heard. In use, it sounds like it has muscle comparable to a 300 watt SS unit,...
Why the facination with integrated amps?
Devialet makes the best sounding amplifier in the world and it’s an integrated ampLMAO. I'm a fan of integrateds but Devialet's units are nowhere close to the best. Yes, I've heard them and they don't hold a candle to even a mid-tier class AB inte...
DeoxIT on tube pins
Some basic contact cleaner that quickly evaporates without residue (unlike DeOxit) should be safe. I’d spray it on the Magic Eraser pad and then dip the pins. Note that you don’t need a near-mirror finish on the pins like you find with new-product...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD
The Classic1 paired with a Soundsmith Carmen was very uninspiring IME. It was mechanically noisy and didn't have any notable strenghts aside from the bass as mentioned by the OP. It couldn't produce that vinyl "magic." I moved onto a comparably pr...
GaN-based Class D power amps (Corrected OP)
Anyone paying that much for class D hardware is getting ripped hard.
DeoxIT on tube pins
I use Magic Eraser. Stick the pins into a pad and work them in and out - quick and easy way to get the whole circumference of the pins.
Line Magnetic quality
@Invictus, Better built than anything you’re running.
Any experience with Tannoy loudspeakers?
I have the XT6Fs. Soundstage is very deep but not terribly wide. Bass extension is very good for their size, but it can sound unrefined at times. Still the best speakers I've owned under the $2K mark.
Is there an actual difference between AB and A/AB ?
Yes and no. Some AB amps are capable of practically zero power as class A.
