Yesterday, I almost wet my pants.
Iwas in there yesterday too. Parked about 8 light-years away up Clayton. Great store though....although I miss the "Rock-N-boll"
Speakers for my Golden tube SE 300B II SE 9w Please help
Silverline's are a great rec. They're very efficient and tube-friendly. Impedance doesn't dip below 7 ohms. They have incredible mid-range and well-built time-aligned cabinets. Driver quality is excellent.
Oval 9 Sp. Cables Making Arcam 10 int. clip?
I'm with bmpnyc . I think the positive spade is making contact with the chassis of your amp or the other spade. There is no reason why these cables won't work with arcam and paradigm. I suggest you hook up some cheap cables and make sure the same ...
Stereophile's refusal to review more low
Stereophile is self-indulgent and inferior to The Absolute Sound. I have subscriptions to both. TAS has "the landing" class in every issue....bargain basement $3000 pre-amps,etc. Stereophile wastes precious space on $75,000 turntables.....a produc...
Best speakers for small listening room
I think cornfedboy had a great point. The most important (and expensive) part of your system is the room you're in. Clap your hands and you may hear a loud harsh flutter echo. This is something you'll need to address with any speaker. If you don't...
A most unlikely cable convert
Great Story. Your system provides you with a new source of satisfaction now that Dad's eating crow!
Best Class A Int. Amp?
2k doesn't buy class A. Sorry. I just paid 4.5k for Musical Fidelity Nuvista M3 based on the Stereophile review, but I can't tell you if that was a good decision until I hear it. Why don't you buy separates? Easier to upgrade later. Good luck.
Tube PreAmp Solid State Amp
It's a great combination if the pieces are well matched. I once had an Audio Research SP-6B tube pre- with a solid state amp. It was a wonderful combination. Tubes are wonderful, but you do loose some bass authority with tube amps, you have higher ...
Opinion, Yamaha, Denon Preamps from 80s
I sold both in 80's. I was not impressed by the CX1000u, MX1000u combo. The sound was clean but stole warmth and some of the sounstage. Earlier models such as the C2a were better. Denon gear is warmer with better transformers. Yamaha made good tun...
Are Carver amps worth a damn?
Carver makes gimmicks for Geeks. When I sold Hi-Fi the Carver amps didn't sound as good as NAD, much less the Naim gear we sold, But it was EXPENSIVE (For the Sound). The Bang & Olufsen gear had better value, which says a lot, since you pay fo...
speaker effiency
Amps supply more power into 4Ohms than 8. Check your amps specs and you will see this is true. Beware of low impedance loads with SET's, howevever. A sensitive 8Ohm speaker like the Soliloquiy's is the trick in this case.
