Which DAC processes CD audio - receiver or DVD? Excellent! it's always worthwhile to A/B. I had a friend with a low-end system and toshiba dvd, and he was using the digital out on the toshiba. We switched to analog, and WHAT a difference. The sound was much less mechanical/ harsh sounding. I gu...
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency? It's because the Brits are on Greenich mean time, and we're not. From B&W's website: Tweeter on top reduces time smearing by allowing driver time alignment and reducing diffraction at the cabinet edges.
Douglas Self on Negative feedback and distortion I don't trust ANYONE who is dogmatic about specs. We're not trying to reproduce sine waves at 1000Khz. It's ridiculous- all you have to do is compare a cheap yamaha with 100 watts and ultra low distortion to a 25 watt audiophile amp. How many comp...
Class A Amplifiers and impedance dips ALL amplifiers, even cheapo AB's, have more power to throw at lower impedance. Super cheap receivers, ie sony, won't work with even a 4 ohm load. The best way to explain it is it works like the output of a pump. The pump is the power supply. As yo...
headphone amp setup question use the preamp out jacks. You can use either volume control. If your preamp is remote control use the vol on the headphone jack to set the gain permanantly, and use the preamp from then on. Think of the headphone amp as just another amp, and all w...
The tweeter on my speaker has a crater...Help Yes, the dome is cosmetic. Sound radiates from the cone. the dome just hides the center. That's why you didn't hear a difference.
Which DAC processes CD audio - receiver or DVD? Snofun3 was correct- if you hook up both outputs it may default to the HK, unless there is a switch on the receiver. However, if it SOUNDS better using digital output, use the digital. Analog outputs (rca left and right audio out) will use Denon DA...
Reasonable tube phono stage for Oracle Alexandria? arc ph3 is a GREAT reccomendation. Shure seems outdated, was great in its day. I like my SS. plinius jarrah/ rega/ dynavector 10x4 combo- sort of low-end hi- end, but the audio research idea is a good one - if you can get it that cheap.
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase like my porno collection, she doesn't want to know. I'd tell her if she got past "don't ask." She wrote a 6500 check for my speakers- she's a keeper guys.
Plinius SA250 or Gamut D200 I have a plinius sa-100iii and like it a lot. Very warm and musical for ss. I understand the sa-250 is not only more powerful, but better sounding. Buy it.
Storing your amp or preamp better to sell it now before 3 years of depriciation. You can buy the same model back in 3 years for hundreds less. If the co. comes out with the MK IV or new and improved, thousands less.
Plinius Owners please comment pLINIUS WILL UPGRADE to MKII later if you so choose. Of course, you have to send it to New Jersey. Be glad it's not New Zealand.
Newbie wants help picking AVR Can I have a third choice? I've sold both. Denon has a smoother amp, uses better transformers. Yamaha has more digital bells & w., more sens. tuners, better ergonomics. Reccommended Yam to a friend, it died 6 years later. Looked at Marantz? Ad...

Upgrade B&W speakers or MArantz Receiver? Ps- Steveaudio and I are talking two channel amps. Use the marants for the surround. Thats why your 800 is buying a much more natural sounding front channel. |
