What's your profession? Age?
>>Please add another 6 years to everyone<<Actually, it doesn't work that way. If the population density stays constant, then the graph is correct as is. The date you made your post does not matter. Density is density.I realize this is ...
What's your profession? Age?
Ok, I'm a geek. Was wondering if the data in this thread might be useful, so I charted the ages. www.hagtech.com/blog/images/audiogon.jpgInteresting. Only 3 out of 304 responses were age 60+. Now is that representative of the true audiophile popul...
What web-sites have scematics for SET amps ?
I don't know about the Fi. Try looking at the database at www.duncanamps.com. They have tons of stuff.Or for another 2A3 schematic www.hagtech.com/pdf/clarionarticle.pdfjh
good old tuners going obsolete
KT88 makes a good point. Turntables are still useful as we keep our own LP collection. A tuner is dependent on the radio station. Once the station drops the "software", the tuner is useless.I've been noticing a trend for many years. Radio station ...
external power supplies
External supplies can be bot good and bad. Good in that you put some distance between the power magnetics and amplifier circuitry. Bad because it costs more, adds extra cabling and possible ground loops.jh
Can you use the same phone stage w 2 turntables
I like the advice so far, get a phonostage that accommodates more than one input. What is NOT recommended is to use a "Y" cable or similar.jh
tubes and analog
>>I'm glad Hagtech pulled out just in time<<Oh, sorry, I've been really busy.>>very old myths<<My apologies for leaving out some crucial details in my earlier posts. I jumped onto this thread in defense of tubes, but was sp...

tubes and analog
>>we develop a totally new mathematics theorem to make the transistor full linear<<What kind of fluff is that? I'm not familiar with any of your designs, but coming up with some new equations on paper does not change the laws of physic...
tubes and analog
The big advantage tubes have over solid state is that they are *far* more linear. Their gain characteristic is many times better than a transistor or integrated circuit. They also overload in a much more sonically benign fashion, tending towards c...
Break in period
Measuring break-in is not necessarily going to be very straightforward. You have to know what to look for. The basics don't change much. A lot of the obvious parameters measure the same before/after. That doesn't mean something hasn't changed. As ...
Balanced in phono stages preamp?
Forgive me, I tire of this thread. What started as an intelligent debate has devolved into childish wordplay. I must be annoying everyone as I keep repeating myself (a sign of insanity) like a broken record. I'm like a homeless bum pushing a shopp...
Geometry in audio.
Also look into "golden ratio", which is something like 0.619. Fold it in half, and you get it again. Play poker? That card is a golden ratio. It's also found in ancient architecture like the Parthenon. There are suggestions that it is the perfect s...
What Makes a Good RIAA or Line Stage?
Oops, I made a mistake. The above is true only for the standard Lipshitz method of EQ. If EQ is split across two stages (the way I do it, for example), then the switch is possible. jh
Balanced in phono stages preamp?
>>We could have set the unit up with a pair of 1M resistors<<Exactly! For the circuit to work you *must* have a common mode connection to ground (the 3rd terminal). Or some other reference voltage similar to a ground. I don't understan...
