Rega P7 + Dynavector DV20X HO Maybe you can add weight to the one you already have? I'm pondering doing the same. With a 20XL on my RB300 the counterweight is all the way back. I'm wondering if a heavier one closer to the pivot would be better. If I ever find time, I might dril...
Hawaii One of them on Nuuanu near Beretannia, I think. Is that the Hawaii Audio? Can't believe I haven't gotten there yet.jh
Best head amp of the market ? I prefer, of course, the Piccolo. Graham Slee also makes one.jh
Anyone use a hockey puck as a record weight? The table bearing quality and size and design will determine how much extra clamp weight it can handle. Also, sprung-loaded tables like an LP12 or old Duals will need to be adjusted for the new weight. As for a hockey puck, they drill quite nicely....
Anyone use a hockey puck as a record weight? I did it. Made me an experimental UFO-based record clamp by gluing a hockey puck to the bottom board. It's not a good thing sonically. Deadens the sound too much. Really take some of the life out of the LP. You can see it here:http://www.enjoythem...
Gain and Loading Tfk, I think you're fine as-is. Just plug that cart into your phonostage. Likely you won't have to change a thing.jh
Do tubes "burn in"? I've found that tubes don't really benefit much from burn-in. The first few hours might have a slight bump up in emission, but otherwise they don't seem to change much. And like the other guys said, it's a long road downhill from there. Fortunatel...
recommend a step-up transformer for Sphinx amp Check out www.jameco.com. I'm sure a tranny is available somewhere.jh
Transferring Vinyl to Digital Your sony might not be so bad. I think with a decent phonostage you can get some happy music out of it. jh
Converting LP's and other analog media to CD's The masterlink works. You might also want to look at one of the newer USB and firewire 24-bit sound cards. Of course, you already need to have a phonostage. If not, look for an all-in-one solution like this.jh
Converting tapes to digital Check out the EMU-0404.jh
What Makes a Good RIAA or Line Stage? This circuit would produce 3 dB [20log(sqrt(2))] more noise than a single gain cell operating in identical conditionsExcept the signal is split between the two inputs! This is not the same as two amplifiers operating in parallel, whereupon you wou...
What Makes a Good RIAA or Line Stage? >>since a cartridge is an inductive device<<Being inductive should have nothing to do with balance. The transducer could be capacitive (touch sensor) or resistive (thermistor). It's just a two-terminal device.>>there is in fact a...
Best jitter free USB DAC Dbk,The "Chime" also deals with the USB jitter problem in a similar fashion to the empirical. Both approaches do their best with proper layout, decoupling, and power supplies to generate a decent output from USB. They then go the extra mile and do...
Does anyone play 78 Rpm records? Getting warm sound isn't just about using a high distortion tube amp. It can be the phonostage as well. You have to get the front end right or nothing else downstream really matters. If you just want a vintage sound then I'd suggest buying vintage ... |
