Lossless files contain errors
I am not surprised Dave, SoundCheck is for Muzak (grins!). . . by definition, it would homogenize macro and micro dynamics.
Bel Canto Pre3 vs Jeff Rowland concerto
Jaymark, I suspect that the pre in the BelCanto room at RMAF may very well have been the PRe3. If that were the case, as the overall sound of the system was excellent, the PRe3 must also be very very good. yet, as I have not heard it sidebyside wi...
Jeff Rowland preamps
Hi Dtanclim, I am among those who are very fond of the little Capri pre. You may have read elsewhere that in fact I have replaced the ARC Ref 3 in my system with the Capri. I do not have direct experience with the Synergy series devices, but have ...
Bel Canto Pre3 vs Jeff Rowland concerto
Jaymark, Concerto pre is actually extremely lovely. I heard it 2 years ago at RMAF driving a Rowland 312 amp and a pair of Vienna Mahler speakers. . . I liked the whole system so much that now Mahlers and 312 are both in my own system.
Bel Canto Pre3 vs Jeff Rowland concerto
Jaymark, if you are considering the JRDG Concerto, you may also have a look the current JRDG Capri, which is usually available on Audiogon for approx $2K. I have happily replaced my ARC Ref 3 with the Capri, and prefer the Capri for its extension,...
Power Receptacles - Review and Comparison
Fascinating Dlcockrum! What is the list price for the Tesslaplex? G.
Lossless files contain errors
Does Itunes allow for different degrees of error checking? C-DEX appears to support 4 levels of error checking, plus jitter detection. G.
Please help me find an amp
Hi Cagliostro, several things you mention in your post spell efficient solid state class A/B amplification or quality class D. I will give you 4 of my favorites. All of these run remarkably cool and are very efficient; they can drive low efficienc...
New Rowland Criterion 2-chassis battery pre
Kawika, I am planning to buzz JRDG this week, and will ask an update on Criterion First Customer Ship (FCS) date. In the meantime, if you are interested, my capsule review of the JRDG 312 stereo amp has finally been published on issue 188 of the A...
pre amp suggestions
I would also suggest to raise the input impedance of the JRDG model 5 to 28K Ohms, or even better to 100Kohms. This should be probably attempted before raising the amp gain.
New Bel Canto Gear at RMAF
Hi Dave, my review article of Vienna Mahlers with sidebars on JRDG 312 and Sumiko Masters set is on The Absolute Sound issue 188 for December 2008. . . I think the main article starts at page 76 or 78.Rafael, believe it or not, we appear to agree....
New Bel Canto Gear at RMAF
Rafael, while there is moderate correlation -- at least in principle -- between price and performance, I prefer not to venture too many prognostications. By the way, JRDG 312 uses twin swwitching power supplies, rather than linear/toroidals. See t...
New Bel Canto Gear at RMAF
Hi Rafael, please tell us more about your misgivings of Bel CantoRef Mk. 2 series. G.
Why did you switch from Audio Research Ref 3?
I switched from ARC Ref 3 to a Jeff Rowland Design Capri linestage. My decision was based on sonic/musical attributes alone. In spite of its diminutive size and much lower price point, after 500 to 700 hours of break in, I found Capri preferable t...
New Bel Canto Gear at RMAF
Dev, I agree with you that Rowland 501 monos, and even NuForce, and by all accounts the original Bel Canto 1000 Mk.1 may not yield the ultimate musical involvement. On the other hand, since then designs have been evolving rather rapidly, and some ...
