How to reproduce sound of piano
Newbee, you are absolutely correct. That is why I often say that our hobby is much more about the creation of a subjectively desirable hyperreality congruent with reality, than the replication of factual reality per se. What I hear in the Poroshin...
How to reproduce sound of piano
I suspect that there may be more ways to skin this particular 'piano cat' than there are audiofools on Agon. In my case, I have achieved magnificent piano results with a system that combines a digital front end, an SS pre, a class D amp, dynamic s...
The Kind Leading the Blind
Howard, you will find the audiophile community in general and the Audiogon crowd in particular much more concerned about our ears than our eyes. . . In fact, I have even attended the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver 3 times in a row. . . and ha...
"D" amps, general discussion who's 1 and why?
"best class D will sound superb and the poorly designed class D will sound like crap and the same goes for tubes, SS etc. etc."Thank you Radical. . . couldn't have said it more eloquently myself (grins!)
"D" amps, general discussion who's 1 and why?
Coffey, I empathize with your experience with Red Dragon Leviathan. . . I suspect this device may not be quite representative of the state of the class D art. Conversely, on the subject of Bel Canto. . . it's a brand, not a device. Unless you have...
"D" amps, general discussion who's 1 and why?
The bottomline Coffey, is that unless you had the opportunity of listening at some length to at least a couple of well broken in examples of the more well regarded / advanced class D amplifiers on the market today, you won't have any idea if these...
Help for a blind audiophile
Howard, I am also a totally blind audiophile. My fast rule is. . . if there is something that befuddles me, I call up the manufacturer. I have often played doctor and done minor bowel surgery -- short of resoldering -- to my equipment while talkin...
"D" amps, general discussion who's 1 and why?
Ugly Huh? I must have very bad earwax buildup. . . the more I listen to my class D JRDG 312 the more I like it. . . or may be it's in those bad recessive genes of mine. . . who knows! (smiles!)

Sounds good Clavil, keep us posted. GUido
Most resolving solid state amp you've ever heard?
We need more information to make any meaningful suggestions. . . what's the rest of your system? What is your budget? what music are you fond of? What would you like in an amp? What would you dislike? What does not matter to you?
can a tube-o-phile be happy with ss?
Markwatkiss, the wine analogy is very apt. . . I would even push it so far as saying that most wines are sadly poor, with reds and whites tending to the 'terrible' each in their own idiosyncratic ways. . . then there are a few marvellous ones. . ....
Jeff Rowland 501s and PC1s
Clavil, as far as I know PC1 ships from the factory with a 50 cm long stock cord to connect PC1 to the destination device (201, 501, Capri, etc. . .). Your dealer should still have this cord somewhere.
Recommended CD's for classical good recording ?
Dawgcatching, as usual, I'll take the minority view. If you want to learn about classical music, there are only 3 things of any importance: repertoire, repertoire, and repertoire. The Naxos label is overall an amazing resource with a very large cat...
Jeff Rowland 501s and PC1s
Hi Clavil, fair question. I used the PC1 with the original pigtail on the Capri. I thought the stage was a little more constrained and there was less harmonic content than Capri directly in wall outlet. But that was several months ago, and I'd be ...

'Tis a deal RX8. . . (grins!)
