Anyone know of a good, quiet, small fan? excellent suggestion all. Thank you folks.
Audiophile blues... There is some blues from the 50s and 60s that I think is complimented by scratchy vinyl. Makes it feel like more of a period work. I'd rather listen to my very worn Prestige Mose Allison records on Prestige - even with all the noise - than the CD ...
Help me discover some new music... If you've never heard it: Thelonious Monk's 'Monk's Music'. Just my humble opinion, of course. Great intro to Monk with John Coltrane and Coleman Hawkins (and Gigi Gryce and Art Blakey come to think of it). Everyone should know a little Monk. It's...
Does you wife touch your system? No. I think she's intimidated by all the tubes. But the funny thing is, functionally it's really pretty simple. A selector, a volume knob, and a CD player. That shouldn't be an issue, but she stays clear.
Intoxicating music pretty much anything with a fifth of johnny walker would prove to be intoxicating.
Tube Trouble Shooting Thanks for the responses.
Cary CAD 280sa v12R Well, Cary charges $400 for the cap upgrade, plus a $100 bench fee PLUS it costs about $100 to ship it EACH WAY to North Carolina. They're using large Cardas caps which can be had from a number of sources - I believe - for about $30 each. I had mi...

Cambridge Audio 840C player still a good buy ? I have one and I've run it through both solid state and - currently - through tubes. I can see why some folks might think it sounds lean, especially with SS. I ran mine through a Musical Fidelity NuVista for a while and the highs were really brigh...
Is there a service to install CDs in a Server? Kirkus, do they send your CDs back when they're done?
Screech when turning tube pre on If your pre-amp doesn't have a protection circuit and you turn it and your amp on at the same time - before the preamp is stable as Elizabeth says - you'll get that noise. Learned that one the hard way.
Low level noise from spkr when nothing is playing ground loop. Lots of threads. Had the same thing in my system.
Amps for Klipschorn speakers I heard a pair of new K-horns driven with a Cary SLI-80 integrated running 40 watts triode. More than enough juice, BIG soundstage.
The Best Compliment You've Gotten On Your Rig? My dad, looking at ten years of accumulated gear switched from "you're insane" to "huh. that sounds pretty good".
Most "Musical" sounding speaker cable under $1000 I know not everyone on A-gon likes them, but I have a pair of LAT International SS1000 Mk II. They're a copper/silver hybrid. My experience is that they are smooth, detailed, and have good extension at the extremes. Their speaker cables and top of... |
