Speakers to make even Raffi sound good?
Let's re-phrase the question: can anyone recommend small spkrs that can be hung on the wall?
Importance of headshell and tonearm alignment
I used to have exactly the same TT very many years ago!Try reading here. While the TT is a 160 (not 166) it may help. Setting up the arm:IF the pivot-spindle distance is indeed 215,4mm as specified here then:effective length is: 233,19mmoffset ang...
Why Palladium in cables, wiring, etc. . .?
Marketing apart (i.e. "the new kid on the block" so to speak), Palladium has been used in connections. Now, whether the resistive loss energy is counteracted by a balanced signal transfer -- I don't know. The only thing I can say is that between a ...
Amps for Avantgarde
Fernando -- good idea, but the ja30 didn't work too well with a Uno. I tried them yrs ago. Better stick with yr 50 or an Orchestra maybe?
Sealed Loudspeakers?
Martin, I'm sure your product is very well thought out. And I'm sure every man & his dog would like to play with a woofer sporting 22.000 gauss... Imagine a minimum phase design that uses a single differential gain block and 8-12 passive parts...
Radical thought- Use 2 pair of speakers
Each pair has (its) own unique characteristics to why not add them togetherBecause most likely you'll have more of cancellation and addition than complementarity, resulting in nulls & humps.But... you never know!
floating ground on ICs?
Either do it as Herman suggests -- but make sure the distance b/ween shield & wires is at least 2x the wires diametre and that it covers as best you can the complete length of the conductors to the connectors.\Or just make them w/out shield an...
Nationalism in Audio Products?
Aball: My Koras are fast with a particular affinity for details and clarity and an underlying impatience:) Yup, that rings a bell: "precision & rigour". The invariable complaint of French professors in Engineering and Law schools when discussi...
Amps for Avantgarde
Well, the Klimo Beltaine power amps are a joy, but the McIntosh C-46 preamp sounds better than the Klimo MerlinHmmm interesting. I used these amps for a while (w/Duevel spkrs). Now, at the same time, someone lent me a FM acoustics pre (the single-e...
Side or back wall more important for speakers?
If you had to choose one, which would it be:1. Place speakers away from back wall2. Place speakers away from side wallsAs you put it, 1) is the best choice. It is easier and less of an eyesore to control some of the side walls' early reflections s...
Anyone familiar with the Manger driver?
These distortions, unlike simple harmonics, are non-mathematically correlated, and occur in time AFTER the musical signalQuite so. However, and apparently, these can be modelled -- but only with reference to electromechanical properties in each sp...
it's the ac.....
Yes, many of the deficiencies connected to system noise floor come fm the mains (i.e., see "dynamics", "detail", etc).t's not difficult "to construct a battery power supply for a tube component" for the simple reason that you can purchase one. It ...
Why doesn't it sound that great???
Don't know how long you've been playing the sys -- but 7 new drivers need a little time to settle in. When that's done (~100 hrs tops), you'll need to carefully place the spkrs in the small room. It takes time to get it right (sort of). Aim for mi...
What's a decent, current used transport?
Just buy a used CEC or a used Teac. Don't fret about "support" etc, etc. It'll last. If it doesn't last & dies (i.e. in 12yrs time) garbage it & purchase another.Cheers
Sealed Loudspeakers?
or is this oversimplifying the issueIt's oversimplifying the issue. Sealed spkrs will have a higher F3 than the, otherwise identical, ported design but fall off there after with a shallower slope. POrted drops faster. There are many other considera...
