Why would a pre amp blow fuses?
You have of course checked it's nothing in the mains?
How critical is the exact placement of the tonearm
Speaking of adjustable, SME tonearms allow adjustments of pivot to spindle distance. I have such an arm (a Pluto -- not an SME). The funny part is, unless someone gives you the exact pivot to spindle distance, you're stumped if you move the base o...
Where are you today?
Pedrillo:...stuck with tubed phono stages other than the jlti I got the ear 834p and K&K phono. (....)I think the Simaudio is first rate. So is the K&K which beats the other two by small margin.Sorry, I'm confused: what you're saying is, t...
Best single-malt Scotch...
It`s horrible to see folks adding ice into fine single malt...The best has to be single malt in a cocktail. Yuk!
Harshness in tweeters: the price of transparency?
Alternatively, all you're hearing is a tweeter that's harsh to begin with OR tuned too hot. When you listen at low volume your ears' natural insensitivity to high frequencies "softens" the sound. At higher amplitude, the harshness is evident and th...
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
May I propose that those who have either great gear or very simple gear, are most likely to concentrate on the music.Nice to see a vintage thread revived...
Amp for Verity Audio Sarastro
Michael -- by "expensive" I mean +10k. Coming to think of it, it's still within yr budget! To be frank, Krell didn't really do it for me either. Please note that the spkrs' owner is an amateur of classical music, so he wants both harmonics and aggr...
First used turntable +- $20,000. Any suggestions?
Dear Detlof, Someone described analytical as "the sounds without the music". Obscure, but poetic non the same!In rationalising this, we would note that many sonic details are reproduced (analytical) -- but in a disjointed manner (unmusical), i.e. ...
Amp for Verity Audio Sarastro
Opinions from people who have heard Verity Audio speakers with different amps would be highly appreciatedWell, I've heard VA spkrs (the ones with the 15" woof bass reflex cabinet) and actually liked what I heard, excepting the average dynamics. So...
Symphonic Line RG 14 Edition Integrated Amp
I would prefer the one without the phono stage since most TT lovers will buy a separate phono pre.Quite logically put -- but, exceptionally in this case, wrongly put! The phonos are surprisingly good, well worth their salt. Unusual, I admit. Sorry...
Lack of depth problem
Given the information provided, the first thing to do is correct spkr positioning by following Shadorne's advice to bring them closer together. 6,5' or 7' apart are good starting points. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your electronics...
Symphonic Line RG 14 Edition Integrated Amp
I have (listened to it). It was driving a pair of small Acapella stand-mounted spkrs. The combination was sonically successful to the limit of these small speakers. What can I tell you?The amp sounds OK without pronounced highs and good driving cap...
First used turntable +- $20,000. Any suggestions?
Justin has made a good point. I would only buy used or a demonstration model if the seller guarantees it, brings it and sets it up for you.I second (or is it "third") Detlof's advice.I also second the assertion, the order of importance (decreasing...
Sonus Extrema: Amplifier and room size
I'll probably keep my Quad and set something with more presence at the lower levels...Oooops -- I just now realised you have Quad 57s!With all due respect, and good as the Extrema may be (enticing sound; acceptably balanced reproduction across 100...
Re: phono stage on integrated
As described, no problem: use Audiolab's phono & pre-out to Audiomat. Take care to keep the master volume down until you find the right settings (the pre-out should go through the Audiolab's volume pot).
