Speakers with built in sub any good? Speakers w/ built in subs that sound good to my H ears are pricey (Genesis, Audio Physics, etc). Agreeing w/ sugarbrie regarding a separate sub, I'd add another option: Audio Physic's "Step" + sub. BTW, how big is the room??
Sweat spot? Sp. placementt again Thanks everyone! The problem in my room was indeed in the 1st reflections on the ceiling and 1st & 2nd reflections on the side wall. We damped the ceiling simply by placing a carpet covering the 1st reflection point for both speakers (it looks...
To tone control or not to tone control Great idea, Dekay! Artemus, grab it! Have heard a X-tone and it wasn't bad... easy to use, too (U can switch back & forth). Sorry, it didn't come to mind.Greg
Where s the bass? May I second chas' and Jadem6's posts above. Had similar experience and found this to be A)less other frequencies, B) related to 1st reflection damping on side walls & ceiling (speakers in conflict with room..). The info JD suggests will help....
To tone control or not to tone control Enjoying music is what counts -- so do try Bruce's suggestion before U spend mega $ on the likes of Cello. While you're at it, also try the cdp w/out isolation; it might help the bass...And don't worry about purists: we're all in this for the musi...
Sensitivity Issues Eleonida, excellent afvice, IMHO!. A few rules of the thumb waiting for cognoscenti. The Ohm load doubles (or halfs, as it were) per 3 db rating. I would pounce on 91 vs 88 dbs (the difference could mean a bigger amp, try getting THAT past yr wife...
To tone control or not to tone control Artemus, you cannot compensate for what is not on the S/W in the first place so adding a tone control will distort your sound, rather than fix it. If it's not there, or it is but the system is not picking it up, you can't add it after the fact... ...
Best Silver ICs under 300? I second Bean. Am using bearlabs now; I chose them over much more costly stuff (Nordost, Siltech). Regards
Musicality" in a system? What IS that ? Thanks, frogman, I, too, second (or "third") yr post. I live in an area where audio seems to be the subject of technical bickering & emotional controversy -- rather than of music; and this, in thinly disguised adolescent exchanges of the "my s...
Tired of SS amp. You might also add K.R.s or EAR (519) to the above suggestions. With the latter I preferred a ss front end. Or play around with a very dynamic pre before U get rid of the Pass...Good luck!
Tired of SS amp. Steven, I'm with Sean & Delancey: system matching is paramount. What's the rest of yr gear (speakers, pre)? Incidentally I've heard the Cary & CJ 8s and found the latter more bass heavy than the former --- but, that's no indication of perf...
Best way to clean vinyl ??? Tmccc0, forgive my ignorance but, what is an ultrasonic parts cleaner and how do U use it (as per instructions I suppose -- but to be on the safe side...)?Thanks, Greg.
Freak Me Out Has anyone mentioned John Zorn's "Spillane"? If so, I second the motion... if not, thoroughly recommended. BTW, I confess to improper laziness; am making a hard copy of the posts to read later at leisure. THANKS everyone!!
Musicality" in a system? What IS that ? In view of the fascinating posts above, may I venture an interim summary at this point, using expressions as well as single words used (random order)? *effortlessly perceive the (performer's') meaning of the note(s); *Rythm and timbres; *"naturaln...
which preamp for my virgos? Hi Trgi, S/Line make their own tube pre ("Enlightment") that partners well with the amps. This said, WHICH S/Line amp do U use? Some amps are a tad bass-heavy to match symmetrically light pre-amps & S/Line speakers. If it's a RG1 (I assume U h... |
