Most achingly-beautiful music
Mahler, "Song of the Earth" K. Ferrier/B Walter, the Farewell. Not recommended for suicidal tendencies. Kathleen sang Ewig (farewell) a few months before she died -- and she knew her condition.
problems with musical fidelity A3cd
Is this MF's tube package? If so, you're lucky. A friend of mine had that -- it resigned from service 1 month down the line (purchased new).Good luck with repairs!
Which Tube integrated for Virgo?
Have auditioned the Virgos with a short-list consisting of KR, Jadis (Reference -- see Trelja), and Pathos (the twin towers or something like that). The results were very good. IMHO, the KR came first, Jadis ref 2nd, Pathos a close 3rd. I audition...
Absolutely Amazing Absolute Power Cords
Krjr, haven't heard the Absolute -- but am intrigued. Where can I find out more about these???Cheers
Musicality" in a system? What IS that ?
Detlof & all other contributors, may I suggest we try digging a bit deeper, now that we seem to have completed the first round? We could test the descriptions mentioned above hands-on (ears-on), and see if we can't take this further. True, it ...
To REWIRE or LET BE: a speakers question
Thanks everyone! Advice well heeded & needed! On a more personal note, thank you all for responding so fast and making me *feel*, yet again, part of a community...I'll post Gen Tech's answer to my question when I get it..Cheers!
Sweat spot? Sp. placementt again
Hi Redkiwi, no I haven't -- just tried a higher chair. Will do so ASAP. BTW, don't you mean ..."I *can* see the problem."? She's the one complaining about "can't single out those cellos" or, "where are Hutchens' (INXS) feet on this track -- can se...
Speakers with built in sub any good?
Artemus, don't think the Step will fill yr. room. I second Doug's suggestion (Thiels). In my experience, they need very careful positioning, otherwise U get too MUCH bass -- but yr room looks fine on screen for them. Also, Thiels are power guzzler...
Holographic Imaging- Cable suggestions?
Adam, have U reviewed speaker placement after changing cables? Maybe that can help -- before U invest extra money. Re, cables: to the ones proposed above, I would add bearlabs -- very neutral sounding, no perceptible "colour" added to my system.
Speakers with built in sub any good?
Speakers w/ built in subs that sound good to my H ears are pricey (Genesis, Audio Physics, etc). Agreeing w/ sugarbrie regarding a separate sub, I'd add another option: Audio Physic's "Step" + sub. BTW, how big is the room??
Sweat spot? Sp. placementt again
Thanks everyone! The problem in my room was indeed in the 1st reflections on the ceiling and 1st & 2nd reflections on the side wall. We damped the ceiling simply by placing a carpet covering the 1st reflection point for both speakers (it looks...
To tone control or not to tone control
Great idea, Dekay! Artemus, grab it! Have heard a X-tone and it wasn't bad... easy to use, too (U can switch back & forth). Sorry, it didn't come to mind.Greg
Where s the bass?
May I second chas' and Jadem6's posts above. Had similar experience and found this to be A)less other frequencies, B) related to 1st reflection damping on side walls & ceiling (speakers in conflict with room..). The info JD suggests will help....
To tone control or not to tone control
Enjoying music is what counts -- so do try Bruce's suggestion before U spend mega $ on the likes of Cello. While you're at it, also try the cdp w/out isolation; it might help the bass...And don't worry about purists: we're all in this for the musi...
Sensitivity Issues
Eleonida, excellent afvice, IMHO!. A few rules of the thumb waiting for cognoscenti. The Ohm load doubles (or halfs, as it were) per 3 db rating. I would pounce on 91 vs 88 dbs (the difference could mean a bigger amp, try getting THAT past yr wife...
