Review: Plinius SA-102 power amp
Hi, I listened to Plinius/SL combos recently. The SA-102 with a Plinius pre (OK sounding, but don't know *which* pre) and a SL pre. The latter combination was nothing short of excellent -- especially considering the asking price for the amp. We ha...
I just puked
Asked above: "How much money do these rebels turned whores need anyway?" As always, the answer is, "MORE".
Is vinyl dead ?
Indeed, there's a resurgence of vinyl in the pro & dj market. Astonishingly enough, it's the YOUNG generation of dj's who are showing an increasing interest. Increasing enough for many new dance issues on 12" and NEW pro TTs. Go figure...WORSE...
Anyone Bi-amping with tube high & solid state lows
Johnk makes a good point. If you can, BORROW a low wattage amp to try before you buy.
Building a dedicated room
I would have to concur with Nrchy. There may be lots of info on the net but, short of making acoustics a hobby and investing time & money learning & experimenting (which can be fascinating), you'd probably be better off (or cheaper off) in...
Monoblocks for Sonus Faber Guarneri ?
Videoman, since you like the 602 sound, don't worry. They're big enough to drive the Gs easily, as well as powering the washing machine and the lawn mower at the same time :).
Where do you draw the line???
Nrchy, I'm not sure Onhwy6's link disagrees completely with you... if you look at the posts that follow. There's a good point being made in that we sometimes set a system to play our "indispensable" kind of music. Mine, for example, is large orche...
Why do DIY products have less value ?
We're seeing diy from the wrong angle, methinks. One prevalent motivation behind diy is creativity: design and/or construction, and enjoyment of operating what we made... While this value exists for the originator, it does not for the subsequent p...
et tu Koetsu?
Interesting analogy of transforming Mahler into Janacek (why not transform the Halle Orch/Barbirolli into the Czech Phil/Neumann...?). What verybigamp is probably hinting at is the analogy "transform the Deep Purple into the Deep Purple + London S...
How good are the JM Labs Mezzo Utopias?
Hi Big, "How good" is a relative term isn't it... I don't know what the price you're getting is, so can't compare to other offerings out there. BUT, here goes:Mezzo's with appropriate amplification (i.e. hi-current, multi watt ss, a strong & c...
Cleaning Records
Wow, 4yanx -- and I was just going to recommend an old thread: "record playing rituals". It's probably not necessary read anymore!
What amp do you use to drive original Quad ESL's
What are you referring to as original? The 57 (1st model-original) or 63 (much more traveled model)? Both are great with Jadis amplification. The Alephs are also good, as Drubin suggests. Many good tubes will do. BTW, you can't drive these speaker...
Fun with audio
Mara: Dental hygiene revisited: the best dental floss, Valhalla "speaker", is produced by Nordost Pharmaceuticals. It's a precious metal thin wire, meticulously delivered in mutliples and protected in an insulated transparent jacket (you have to p...
Krell Master Reference Amplifier
Cchp notes "...(I) feel that the Levinson 32 is too dry.." My experience with a 32 was identical to the word: dry. This was in a number of combos (none incl. Krell & Pipes, but INCLUDING equip Sdr refers to), strangely even with ML amps. Again...
Has audiophilia changed your music taste?
Dan- "As a musician, it's easier to listen to a poorly recorded great performance than it is to listen to a greatly recorded poor performance"This applies to everyone, methinks, not only musicians...??I'd further propose, as a music"phile", that a...
