Women who enjoy quality speakers
I'm struck by the stereotypes (...) such as women "don't know how to listen" and "prefer to talk." No way! I have never met a woman who did not have acute enough hearing to IMMEDIATELY pick out differences and what is better or worse.Excuse the...
Best amp for B&W805D3?
Some time ago I tried a number of amps on a pair of 805-II (i.e. a previous model).Driven well you should have clarity rather than harshness.I can confirm what is said above: a class A SS (or a good AB) will drive them well -- a MF nuvista integr...
Women who enjoy quality speakers
I have never seen a lot of other women enthousiastic about quality sound and music. Are there any in this group? Do your wifes experience the same as i did?My mother in law became something of an ally to my audiophilia some time ago when I was dem...
Looking to buy a quality integrated $10,000 budget.
Hi Glen I have listen to some Moon gear wasn’t for me. And Rega’s new stuff again not for me. Naim, Linn pass not for me, been there done that not my cup of tea. looking for;Dynamics, good bass control but good separation of notes, sweet top end ...
Audiophile demographics?
@gg987@gg987 I think women have traditionally not been audiophiles because they had no one to show them the way and excite them about it.Interesting! I know three women audiophiles, one of whom is my mother in law. She developed an interest -- sim...
Speakers good for close to wall placement
I would add some Devore models (can't remember which ones, sorry), specifically designed to play close to their back wall.
Kharma Ceramique 2.3 with McIntosh MC275 or Purifi Amplifiers?
I heard a Purifi-based amp driving Genesis Vs as well as Wilson Watt-puppy and the result was very good, fast sounding, detailed and not harsh (as I expected it to be). Can't tell how it'll sound on Kharma's ceramic drivers.Haven't listened to MC27...
Speaker Audition
Things I love about horns are dynamics and the "you're there" sound you get with live recordings.Genesis and Tannoy will give you some of what you're used to with your A-gardes, albeit I advise you to listen to the Tannoys. The bigger Devore speak...
Analog vs digital?
@nzastro Hi Tony, methinks all you need to do to improve your digital to an "I’m enjoying music" level is save up for a reasonably priced "killer" dac (like a little Ideon, or a Benchmark: ¬2.5-3.0 k), add a reclocker (mine was 300) and you’re rea...
Used phono preamp options - feedback requested
Nice TT you have there....Intriguing question: of the phonos I've heard -- EAR, both MFs, Clearaudio -- I'd be hard pressed to choose "the best one"!Here is how I would rate the ones I know with respect to clarity, low-level detail, and frequency ...
Looking for a vinylesk sounding DAC
Hi @barrista 0611 Streaming means you're ultiamtely limited to the quality of the stream. That said, my experience comparing my own TT (Simon Yorke S4+arm) to my dacs (MSB Select-II & Ideon Ayazi) using an external HDD rarely yielded comparabl...
Bass Driver Size - how much better is an extra inch?
To answer your question " how much better is an extra inch? " the answer is, not much -- unless you have a very large space that your present speakers fail to fill.If that is the case, a 8' woofer will give you a slightly bigger image and will be...
SF Cremonese Q
@asa haven't done a thread here in over 10 yrs, but just thought some people might be able to help in the interim.Welcome back!
SF Cremonese Q
Recently I listened to the Cremonese extreme and did not find their tweeter hot -- if anything it sounded somewhat recessed, but pleasantly so. It seemed to extend very high and the overall result was coherent, such that I sat back and listened to...
Magico vs the world
@lohanimal What amp do you use with the Magico. On some DArtzeels they sound a bit flat and meh - but when i’ve heard them with Soullution or Constellations they have sounded superb. I listened to the M3 & M5 with a Symphonic Line Kraft 250
