Need help choosing capacitor upgrades in crossover
Have you seen the Obbligato Premium Capacitors? I haven't heard them. But I do agree it is a preference so no real wrong or right here.Solen are fine for bass. I wouldn't use them for midrange or highs in the crossovers. The Mundorfs are terrific ...
best bang for the buck tube preamp?
Thanks Rene..I hadn't thought about this either. A fellow(oliverlim) mentioned on a thread I started on audiocircle about the Promitheus that he replaced his Rotel 1068 with the Promitheus for music. I found his comments here Promitheus. It ain't ...
best bang for the buck tube preamp?
The EE Minimax is a great one, especially if you can find it at $500. I had forgot about that one.
best bang for the buck tube preamp?
Here's one that will be great to play with starting out 2006 Dared SL-2000a. Look around on Agon, a used one runs about $350. Make sure it's a 2006 model..so you get two outputs.
What dynamic spkr. did you go to from electrostat?
I once thought the same way Mrtennis. I was stuck on the maggie and ribbon sound though not perfect..no speaker is..very enjoyable. It wasn't until I got into single drivers did I realize a cone can be just as fast or faster than the maggies in rev...
Tube DAC to take edge off Rega Planet 2000
I think what the guys here are telling you in a subtle way. Is that the problem lies in the speaker and the room. I'm going to say speakers. Not trying to bash the Paradigms, but they are known to be a little edgy. Look at the graphs..without the g...
What to feed my Paradigm Studio speakers?
The only solid state amplifer under $500 I've heard Paradigms with that sounded nice was a Denon POA model amplifier(used $300 to $400). It will sound much better than the Denon reciever you're using now. You can use the reciever as a preamp until...
What to feed my Paradigm Studio speakers?
Welcome to the club!! If you want to learn more about the underground and bang for the buck gear. One word..well maybe two AudioCircle. I've discovered more goodies in 1 year there than several on Audiogon. Which seems geared more to big name stuf...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
Pubul57, I understand where your coming from. I like the preamp to be as you describe.I can add my flavor in other parts of the chain.Even guys that won't admit it have a flavor they prefer.Whether SS or Tubes or anything in between.Good listening
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
Mr.Sphere true this is a audio site, hopefully for all not just what's considered High end because it cost a certain price. Maybe we're thinking the same thing just from different perspectives.I like absolute transparency not at the expense of bei...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
"In the world of high end audio, the idea is to get away from tone controls so as to get to the truth of the matter."OK let's look at from another perspective. Since it's the goal of high end to get away from tone controls.. This will leave a lot ...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
Well I be Darn..Mikey I think he likes it!!! LOLGood for you..have fun!!
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
I wasn't dawging the PLC..only pointing out. One shouldn't confuse the two. Whether one is superior to the other is in the ear of the beholder. Hey Jsadurni..if the Promitheus doesn't work out for you. I'll buy it from you for what you paid for it...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
"FWIW, the task of the volume control is *not* to filter noise! I would suspect that there are other reasons for a preference."Yes I agree, I suppose it is how one looks at it. I'm not designer like yourself, but don't you use something inside your...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
Jsadurni, you should be fine with a passive..just make sure the next one is a TVC not the PLC with autoformers. I watch movies with my TVC..no shortage in dynamics. Also from what I've read the PLC with autoformers doesn't electrically isolate inpu...
