Sansui 441 speaker recommendations
Pretty much anything from Klipsch would work.  the key is high efficiency 94db+ and stable 8ohm load. The older SS Sansui's did not like to push lower than 8ohm loads so no 4ohm speaker here. Also if the receiver has not be serviced yet get it se...
Audio measurement: false validry or Strawman arguement.
We absolutely need measurements. to confirm the design, specs, correct performance to the design, etc. we need to confirm the design meets design intent and we need a base line. The real question is are we measuring all the right things? Can we e...
Is it a Bad Tube or a Bad fuse (Fuse Fatigue)?
Why not put new fuses in and try it again? you don't have a tester so unless your going to change them all you have to try it with new fuses. If it blows the fuse again you know its a tube and will have a good idea which tube. just make sure you u...
Aurender A Series DAC Performance
I've had the older A10 and the DAC was not as good as the one in my mac preamp C2700, DAC2 board, not sure if the newer ones are better but in my experience the DAC can be bested by an external DAC in the $2000 range. I doubt the Aurender DAC is g...
McIntosh C52 to C53?
I had an Aurender A10 with the built in DAC and it was not as good as the built in DAC in my Mac C2700 ( DAC2 board) in my opinion anyway. The Aurender DAC was dry and rather boring sounding, the only thing I found it exceled at was it had a very ...
for Technics SU-R1000 owners....unit already discontinued? where to service?
their web site directs you to one of their service centers in your area, have you reached out to the service center closest to you and ask them directly?
Which turntable? Pro-Ject or VPI?
the RB300 is a great arm with lots of upgrade path, the carbon arm project makes is just ok. tables are probably close so what ever one you like the look of better. i bet is the VPI will hold its resale value longer.
Seeking Honest Opinions: Your Experience with McIntosh Audio Gear
immatthewj, the MAC SACD plyer i had I got in a trade deal and only tried one SACD and maybe a half doz CD's. So i can't rally talk about sound as i didn't even use the internal DAC in it. I sold it shortly after getting it as I stream now for...
Aurender Model Choices
I found the Aurender A10 i owned to be over rated at best in my system. The one thing I could not get past was the Aurender App its just not up to the standards i expected for the money spent, its rather a let down to just about every other app ou...
JJ preamp tubes - repeated problems
in my new mac gear the JJ's were the first to go they sound flat, bright, toneless  compared to better tubes, specially some nice NOS tubes. first thing is to upgrade those small signal tubes asap. yup I get it I also have a mac preamp and power a...
Seeking Honest Opinions: Your Experience with McIntosh Audio Gear
I think this will depend on which Mac gear we are talking as the Tube stuff and SS stuff are different.  I can talk a bit on the tube equipment that I have, I have a C2700 preamp and MC275 power amp I had a SACD player up until a few weeks ago whe...
The $10,000 Question
for low level listening i'd recommend something that is hi sensitivity and efficacy,  most tend to get up ago go at lower volumes much better and earlier.  you can also save money on the power amp section as it opens the door to lower power integr...
Preamp advice
Guys he's running LaScala's he doesn't need more gain he's already got 65wpc more than he needs. he need a good quality preamp that's not hi gain and that's very quiet.  If you have the funds look at the matching Mac preamps, they are dead quiet ...
Technics SL-1200GAE or VPI HW-40 or …?
From my experience with current VPI I'd go the technics. I found the VPI prime 21 i bought two years ago rather lacking in fit and finish. I had issues to the point i sold it back to the dealer and bought another brand. My tone arm was not straigh...
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion.
I also like bananas specifically the WBT Type are what i use due to being able to tighten them. Spades are a pain to connect and to keep tight. Lets not even get into the fact there is no standard size so its a hit or miss if they will fit on you...
