Repair options for Placette passive linestage?
Take it to a local technician. Ask your local dealer who does their repairs.  everyone seem to think their prized piece of audio gear is only repairable by the manufacture,  That's just silly. Well unless there is some component that's only avai...

Friend had, prior to his death, the Elekit 300b amp not sure if its the same model. I will say it was a stunning little amp for the money. He used it on his Cornwall (new). He had a local builder assemble the amp he also go the upgrades with it. f...
Record cleaning and realistic expectations
Few years ago I bought some records off a collector who had them stored for 30+ years never played. Took multiple cleanings with a ultra sonic cleaner and vacuum cleaner to get all the mold out of the groves. Even after a few cleanings I was still...

Need A High Compliance Cartridge
Van Den Hul makes, made many hi compliance carts. I've used one for many years. Unfortunately it needs a rebuild now, I also don't have an arm for it anymore. I think mine  has a compliance of 34 and its mass is around 5g.  you could find a used ...
dCS Bartok Apex vs McIntosh DA2 - Trouble Hearing the Difference
I've never heard anything from DCS, But I have a C2700 preamp with the DAC2 board in it feeding Mac mono blocks. I also have/had a Chord Dave in my system. What I can say is the Mac DAC2 is better then many may think for the money. It punches well...

Start with Upgrade to DAC?
have you addressed your room acoustic yet? That's where I would start, many people ignore the room when that's the biggest upgrade you can do bar none. like may will say the source first but if the room is not great sounding no source will sound ...
Can hi-end cables benefit less expensive electronics?
No cable in my experience has taken a bad sounding component and made it great all of a sudden, specially putting an expensive cable on a lower priced component. Cables are fine tuning. So much over hyp and pseudoscience on cables in hi end audio ...
SACD/CD Drive Mechanism Replacement
Any reputable tech can install a drive not that hard. having a spare is only a thing if you know there are not many available. Like an older out of production drive. If parts are plentiful why bother.  mind you if your sanity is an issue worrying...
I know this an old topic...but Tonearm for Garrard 301 :)
Oh looks like your arm board is predrilled for the SME type base. Also looks very nice, and lots of room for the arm/arm wire etc. Should be a great sounding table. Not sure about a tonearm that is not connected tt the plinth, one bump and your d...
I know this an old topic...but Tonearm for Garrard 301 :)
After building a Garrard 301 set up, i.e. plinth, rebuild of table, tone arm, etc. I'd say take your time and look for a reputable arm that fits many modern carts compliance. Personally I'd stay away from vintage arms if your going to run modern ...
How to best connect sub on $250 total stereo system?
If the single sub has both right and left RCA inputs they are probably merged internally anyway. so just plug the sub out into either and see what works.
I want to buy new speakers for 50,000 and see it used for 30,000, what should I do?
If the product is available on the used market you'd be a fool for not looking at least.
