Loud bad noises
Thanks all. I will try these "maintenance" suggestions on the CDP. Not to string out this thread but I did switch out the Cambridge for a Sony DVD/CD player I had in the home theater. Twice last night on start up of a disk or track I heard a brief...
Loud bad noises
Will do Eldatford. I almost hope it is the CDP. Just bought the DAC used and don't want to think it was faulty or is now faulty.
Loud bad noises
Celtic66 - Thanks for the response. The Cambridge does have some years on it. Do you think a laser failing is more likely than a malfunction of the DAC? The noise is centered, coming from both channels simulaneously. I was concerned the DAC wasn't...
does anyone sharpie thier CD's???
To Shardorne's point...1) is it possible marking the perimeter reduces error and allows more bits to be read resulting in louder volume? (I'm not an EE and have only the vaguest of notions about how CDs work...I'm asking because I want to know...n...
How much money for your next interconnect cable???
Cmk - Thanks for the reply. I'll check into "Slinkylinks" (Sorry for the delay replying...lost track of this thread and didn't know I'd gotten a response.)GH
Best short-lived band?
The Romantics. "What I Like About You" is still such a great tune...makes me smile everytime I hear it - even if being used in a commercial.
Brass door knobs as footers
Hi Gonzo1- No, I did not encounter that problem. The Dayton cone studs were (by memory) shorter than the threaded legs of my stock TT footers. Compare lengths in your case. Are you using a Technics table? Make sure the studs that come with the con...

You are very welcome and glad to have contributed somemthing to someone on Audiogon. This has been a very helpful site to me. re the vibration "evacuation" concept in practice - it's amazin', ain't it!Hope we all continue to be able to enjoy the m...
Brass door knobs as footers
Hello JB53 - Guess I haven't priced doorknobs lately! When I ordered the TT, I got Kevin's KAB Modified Stanton "Groovemaster" MM cartridge. It's a DJ cart but tricked out with nuded canitlever and stereohedron tip (no longer in production and Psyc...
Brass door knobs as footers
Johnny - glad to hear PartsExpress cones worked for you. Here's to hi-value, budget options. Using a 2.25" Cuisnart chopping block that I bought at Lowes, myself. I really believe Mapleshade is onto something re vibration draining.Vinyl playback i...
Any experience w/Guerilla Audio?
Thanks all - That's reassuring. Am hoping to upgrade from the Ultraconductors. JPS Labs Superconductor Q (was FX) is very good but a stretch budget-wise right now - especially as I want 2 pair. I've emailed Guerilla Audio. Will see what sort of re...
How much money for your next interconnect cable???
Anyone using ICs from JPS Labs? Have a Superconductor FX between TT & Amp. Have 2 pair of Ultraconductors between CDP/Tube Buffer/Amp and would like to upgrade. The Super is better than the Ultra. I've got a very modest budget...so the $348 x ...
Best lines in a song
"My head is my only house when it rains." Captain Beefheart. Could very well have got that twisted up but that's how it works for me in memory. Actually not sure if it's a lyric or a song title. Either way - words to live by. Jsonic - I second you...
Tired of Expensive Speaker Cable. Alternatives?
If it wasn't already suggested, go to The Cable Co. New Hope, PA. (fatwyre.com). They have a lending library of cable. Great deals on used. Pick your price range and search their site. The price range on cables is mind-blowing.
Spare tubes? How many?
Thanks all...looks like I need to start budgeting for some backups. (Dfhaleycko - Thanks for the warning. Ain't going down that path! I'm running upgrades over the stock tubes now. Should be able to order same same for all 3 types).
