I completely understand your interest. I highly recommend a trip. Plan a weekend in Atlanta or a city with some good high end audio stores. Make it a fun weekend. Make appointments with one or more audio stores. Ones with Sonus Faber speakers, Wil...
Does remote control degrade the sound of tube preamps?
@music_is_life   Thanks for @ blackdogs reference. Helpful in seeing where he is coming from, a competitor. His examples of “crappy integrated circuit volume” used in Audio Research equipment who’s sound “has been ruined” … making it a very inf...
Why Is Hi Fi Gear So Darn Expensive?
@thyname    +1 In addition you can work very hard (or more for the purpose of making money) in order to afford more or you can due without and concentrate your buying power on one thing.    I drove ancient used cars until I was forty. I funnel...
Sumiko Songbird (High Output)/Music Hall MMF-5
Personally, I would, and have put a cartridge of equal value of the turntable on my system before to good effect. But I would also consider @mijostyn ’s comments about high output MC cartridges.
Rogue Audio and Audio Research Comparisons
@skucie    Thanks for your comments. I own an ARC Ref 160s and have had a pair of REF 160m monos for many months. I have heard exactly what you have said repeatedly… folks just cannot let their REF 75se go. When I can, I will have to let my REF...
Streaming vs Physical Media
@retiredfarmer It would be really interesting to see your systems. There is a place under your user ID to place photos and identify your components.   Up until recently vinyl ruled at all price categories… CDplayers have slowly gained ground (...
Does remote control degrade the sound of tube preamps?
@blackdoghifi    It would be interesting to see your system under your ID to see where you are coming from. What has been your  experience with remote control / non-remote / stepped attenuators.
WiFi streaming — streamer vs. through iPad
I do not think you are going to hear a difference between an extender and mesh. I have had a friend that has had noting but problems with mesh. Mesh is just newer. So, tne bugs will get worked out. But. My experience suggests the biggest differenc...
Best streamer for a returning audio guy
@cleeda , @arafiq Thank you very much for your kind words. Absolutely I was not trying to put anyone or anything down. I am still a bit confused on @twodogs112 comments. I am assuming it came from my comments about changing components. No value...
Looking for wider soundstage
The photos help… what about your sitting position? It all matters.
WiFi streaming — streamer vs. through iPad
I highly recommend Qobuz. My audio dealer kept recommending it to me… finally I did it… I couldn’t quite figure out why I waited… they have around 500,000 high resolution albums vs around 50,000 for It’s nearest competitor. Don’t wait!
Balanced versus single ended
@ditusa   Ok. If I am running interconnects for several hundred feet… it is important. But this is a condition that is vertically nonexistent in high end audio.   The reality is that the quality of the interconnect usually trumps single ended...
Looking for wider soundstage
Looking at photo. Again nice system.   I would have to say your setup is the limiting factor 13’ is too big a triangle… typically you would want 6 - 9’ between the speakers and the listening location. So an equilateral triangle. Also having you...
gryphon amps
I have heard mostly great comments about Gryphon amps. But any comment like “the best amp made period”, needs to be questioned. It depends on your values in sound. Sound quality is not like measuring a length or discrete absolute parameter in phys...
How old is too old (for SS gear)?
It really depends on your expectations for sound quality. If it is not important, then they will work for decades. But there are deterioration of original sound quality as mentioned above and the advancement in sound quality / unit cost.    if yo...
