DAC comparison I own an REF 9se… (technically a CD9SE). It is the best DAC I have ever heard… I had a Berkeley Alpha Reference 3 ($22K and highly rated) in my system with my ARC 9SE for several weeks… I fully expected to be coming up with another $5K for the Ber...
Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable OP, Honestly neither did I. I did a huge amount of research before swapping out my VPI turntable for a new Linn , and have listened to high end tables for years. If you read the professional reviews and listen to contemporary tables the Linn is n...
After the thrill is gone @timintexas Congradulations for finding a solution. It would be really disheartening to make a major expenditure and be so disappointed. Glad you found something that works for you.
Streaming Qobuz via iPad OP, I am confused. If what you say is that you are streaming “from” your iPad. That is the problem. This probably means you are using communication from the iPad to the streamer… you do not want to do that. This is exactly what happens to me when...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge @rauliruegas You bring up an interesting point. Does analog and digital sound actually have a different sound? A decade ago, I would have said yes. Today I have to say no… or it is a philosophical question. My analog and digital sound the sam...
Isn't it really about quality of recording? @fleschler Wow… you should post photos of your system and collection! I have 4,000 albums.. about half and half vinyl and CDs. I am giving away my CDs… just no point with streaming. But my albums take up a wall… that is a lot of physical medi...
How Audiphiles are Different @jji666 Yes, good observation. I recommend Robert Harley’s book, The Complete Guide to High End Audio. It gives a great overview of the pursuit and introduces the terminology. Also, this is a glossary from Stereophile http://www.integracous...
Regular interconnect or digital? Not knowing your equipment that makes it very hard. If you have audiophile equipment I definitely recommend Transparent. Cardas is a tad warm, which enhances most systems. DH Labs, good budget interconnects.
Desperately seeking some advice/tips for my S.M.S.L. SU-9 DAC OP, I would make sure you have a good 200+ hours before starting experimentation. That’s at least 8 days X 24 hours. My equipment takes over 600 hours to breakin… although to fully breakin 1,000. But 80% by 250 hours.
After the thrill is gone I don’t ever remember being disappointed after a time with speakers. They typically sound good when I get them, then sound better as I work to optimize them. Maybe that is a personal thing. I was initially enamored with planar speakers and over 3...
Class D amplifier with TPA 3250 board I have an all tube system. With very efficient speakers you have a lot of great options. I highly recommend finding a a great amp made by a company, not an “Artisan”… a company that knows how to design and manufacture great tube amps… Audio Resear...
What I've Learned Over 18 Months In Four Easy Steps You are right. I am getting good at that now… after working on it for fifty years.
Are all dBs created equal? I have found the better my speakers get the less volume I need to enjoy them. The background is quieter, instruments separate, bass punches quicker and harder. I typically listen in the 70’s… sometimes even the 60’s. Early in this pursuit I used t...
Regular interconnect or digital? One of the biggest changes (the huge, like someone swapped the components to much higher grade) occurred when I swapped my first digital cable. I was absolutely sure I would not hear a difference. High end interconnect manufactures make both with...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge Since I have owned a high end table I have always let the sound quality as expressed in multiple reviews be my guide without concern to type… other than compatibility with my table. Each has been MC. As to the reason why certain cartridges sou... |
