A public service announcement OP, Great comment.
Do I need 10 gauge power cord if I have 10 gauge from panel? I would not worry so much about the gauge as the intent of the cord and the quality (it is likely to be 10 gauge) These days most cable companies build a special cord for amps as opposed to low power components. I searched for nearly a year to ge...
What I wish I knew before starting my audiophile journey @jusfre Good question. My first direct line was put in when the average value of my components was ~$5K. It had a pretty big impact. More than a great interconnect. What makes it hard to access is that the more expensive the components inve...
What is the current retail cost of your reference system? Different people have different values and live different lives. Some commit themselves to education and hard work and make a lot of money. Others prefer a more balanced life between work and family and may have less resources.many spend money acr...
Tube or solid state Yes, definitely tastes change over time. I climbed mountains, jumped out of airplanes, and dove below 120’ in the ocean. As I got older I more in tune with more subtle and nuanced sound. Street racing of one’s youth becomes a passion for high perf...
What is the current retail cost of your reference system? @surfcat +1
Really expensive systems that sounded great? I have heard a number of really expensive systems over the years. One thing I have found is that seldom will you hear the potential at conferences or small dealerships. They get stuck with horrible compromised rooms with no time to fiddle. The...
Tough amp decision I would say this is important decision sonically. I would not be in a hurry. MACs have a very distinctive sound. Make sure that is what you want. MacIntosh is frequently paired with B&W… because Mac is very midrange and bass heavy. Great for r...
Phono Cable and interconnect compatibility...? It would probably easier to audition the same brands. It gets complicated very quickly auditioning all sorts of combinations. I assume you have some kind of connector in there now. Probably just cheap. Good. I highly recommend you listen fo...
Tube or solid state @spaceguitarist … Use tube only if you prefer Low Fi and enjoy this vintage sound. :) While there are a lot of ways to generalize stuff in high end audio. Different people may be drawn to different sound characteristics. But well, that stateme...
Inter Connects - What I know and don't know OP… “I’m curious what (if any) objective truths their are regarding cables, conductors, connectors, shielding, etc.?” No. Only generalizations like copper is warmer than silver coated copper, which is less warm than pure silver. But, typicall...
Apple tv with Apple music hi res streaming issues? OP, Given you situation… a BlueSound is the way to go! Switch to Qobuz. Qobuz is costing me about $12 / month using the annual plan… over a half million high resolution albums. Best sound of any streaming service.
Audio Research i/50 I own an Audio Research DAC (ARC Reference CD9SE). For some reason, I just never thought of ARC when it comes to DACs. Until my dealer brought one over. I was not in the market… 30 seconds after I put it in I texted him to tell him to order me one...
What is the current retail cost of your reference system? ~$150K. About $25K in cabling and interconnects. But built over a period of over forty years of upgrades every seven years or so. Most audiophile do this as few are well healed enough as youngsters to go out and buy what they want.
Interconnect advice needed OP, yes I have tried Wire World Eclipse… I think it was 7. To me they seemed worth the money.. but, as always they must be tried in your system. In comparisons, for me in my systems I preferred DHLabs. But that is not saying anything against WireW... |
