Back in the vinyl saddle again.
Or you could improve your digital end so it sounds as good or better than your analog. That is not that difficult to do at most investment levels these days.  Or upgrade your phono stage as opposed to upgrading the table. You could retip the cart...
Technics 1200G vs VPI Forever Model One
I owned a VPI turntable for a couple decades. I would unhesitatingly recommend VPI. I know lots of folks that like Technics, but I am not one of them. I have not had the positive experience with the sound.
New to Turntables
The cartridge, tonearm, turntable and phonostage are all of great importance. In general, over the decades the sweet spot for me has been the turntable (with all its components) investment equal to the phonostage investment. I am sure there is som...
Sound proofing floor
Thanks for your feedback. Good to know it made a difference. I'll keep the idea for use at my home sometime.
is McIntosh known for good dynamics?
OP, Good to hear your comments on a WA7. I’ve never heard one. Sounds like venturing into a DAC was not a great idea for them. Just a note. I own an WA6 and a WA6 SE as well as a WA5 LE. The WA6 and WA6 SE are very good natural sounding, musical...
How to find local audiophiles
It would be nice if Audiogon allowed contact information sharing. But their business is in bringing together buyers and sellers. Their revenues disappear... as does the forum... if folks simply see posting of stuff for sale and then do a deal outs...
Is the "improvement" real or imnagined?

Has it all been worth it?
@craigvmn    Sorry to hear your story. But high end audio is not for every one. It is a highly complex and ambiguous endeavor. Some folks do not enjoy the challenge or take a bad turn or two and end in dead ends. Best to enjoy the music... with ...
Do sound characteristics matter when moving from midfi to hifi?
Good question. But I would look at it differently. First, sound is tailored by high end companies very carefully. While consumer products are designed around cheap subcomponents and lots of features to put in the marketing material. So, the sound ...
is McIntosh known for good dynamics?
@wrm57  +1 Correct.  Mac is highly regarded. Their house sound is very midrange and bass heavy. Just great for rock and roll. But not know for nuanced sound, certainly not microdynamics and detailed. Without well balanced top end, then it might ...
Koetsu cartridges. They must be something special.
@larryi  +1 Nailed it. This is why I own a Koetsu Rosewood Signature. My dealer bought several when he found out they were closing down shop.
800 Matrix
I bought five B&W 805 Matrix speakers (one is center channel), and 2 - 800 subwoofers long ago... 1990’s. I have had the subwoofers retaped and the amps in the subwoofers serviced, but they are doing great in our home theater.
How to find local audiophiles
By my nature I am a recluse. I don’t think this is uncommon among audiophiles. While working, I had more than enough interactions with people (senior executive) so that being alone was a real privilege. Having retired. I’m still a recluse. Howeve...
Is this a new trend?
I would think you may have inadvertently clicked on a bookshelf speaker ad and the search engine then flagged that you looked at bookshelf speaker and then started barraging you with bookshelf speaker adds. If you triggered and interest... then it...
