Impressions of Pacific Audio Fest 2024
Thanks for your synopsis.
Hot off the press...Technics SL 1300G
The VPI Aries II is an exceptional table. I haven’t heard a Technics in a while but I believe it to be in a completely different league. This is corroborated by an audiophile friend of mine who does have a lot of experience with Technics. I owned ...
Changing Tweeter on Olympica 3
@mofojo   I’m with him on this. I am guessing the difference after breakin will be unnoticeably small.    One of my jumpers came off my speakers so I only one woofer was working on one side and two on the other. It slowly dawned on me over a c...
Can You Trust a Shipper? (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc)
I buy all my high value audio products from a dealer. I receive about two packages via Fed Ex or UPS, or USPS a day, for many years. Once every year or two a package gets delivered to the wrong address. Once every couple of years a package gets a ...
Integrated Amps
If you’re planning to upgrade your speakers. I would do that first, then go shopping for an amp to support it. This will allow you to know the strengths and weaknesses of your system with the speakers… perhaps try some amps with your system. Best ...
Anyone remember the days before bells and whistles!
Let’s see, I’m thinking… the 50’s and 60’s were largely before the plethora of features and function. Marantz introduced the oscilloscope on a receiver in the mid 70’s. That’s getting pretty gadgety. So, I’d say the 70’s market the reduction of so...
Integrated Amps
There is a whole world of great sound quality out there to explore. It can be intimidating and pretty easy to make a wrong first moves.   First the landscape. Moving out of Marantz is a great first step. There are a couple long term reliable… bu...
sibilance in system
Yes… definitely need 200 hours on the speakers before getting serious about sonic flaws or about permanent positioning.   Glad you had such great results having your records cleaned. Good to know.
End of a long quest to vanquish sibilance.
OP, ‘Yes, you really tried absolutely everything.
Output from Mola Mola preamp to Headphone Amp?
I solved this problem by having separate headphone system and main system. Certainly more expensive but incredibly flexible and you can optimize the sound for headphones.
Truly Stunning Vinyl Album
@larryi Late 50’s early 60’s recordings "hold their own"... No, I would say many are the the best recordings ever made!   Every once in a while I pull one out of my collection without any thought about it... and it is "Whoa... holy cow.... tha...
So, I bought a Chord Hugo TT2...now what?
Yes, it is critical to respond if something doesn't work as expected.
Any real experiences with a Luxman C900u and C10x?
For speakers Sonus Faber, DynAudio, and Magico.    I have heard the C-900u, and a variety of the L-509X lines. Also the M-900u and M-10X. They all have a very distinct sound signature that are very similar with increasingly lower noise floor and...
Recommendations for 20 amp electrical outlets
Thanks for your kind words. I am a scientist at heart (also by training) and am very intensely interested in what I am interested in… and drive to understand the forest through the trees. My interests are very long termed.
Any real experiences with a Luxman C900u and C10x?
First off, I have to say I am not fond of Luxman solid state equipment. I have listened to it a lot and it is lean and lacks midrange bloom and rhythm and pace. This amp is like that. However it has deep power reserves and sounds “high end”, parti...
