I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!!
@irjones  Streaming is very solid. The worst case you loose your internet connection for a little while and access to the 10 million + albums for a short time.
Amps that don’t impersonate space heaters.
ADG monoblocks sound very good for the money and produce little heat… and come in a carrying case and look like tubes to boot. I’ve had them in my system.
Record cleaning and realistic expectations
It has been more than twenty years since I took my deep dive into record cleaning… and it was pretty deep. I do remember that alcohol is a real no no, not because of a residue, but it hardens or damages the vinyl in some way. My research included ...
Spades vs. Banana plugs ??
@sudnh  So you learned this by experimentation? Please tell us the details.   I have always thought that spades should sound the best… but after hundreds of hours of experimenting with interconnects, and a hundred hours with speaker cables etc. ...
Toe in is crucial
@daveyf  +1 sometimes that is the way to get there… with long intervals.
DH Labs - Shunyata Cable Comparison
@gbmcleod   +1 Thanks for that.   I’ve run out of patience attempting to bring an all encompassing explaination to those that simply don’t get it. I learned more about sound quality by attending the symphony for ten years in the 7th row cente...
Need Opinions for Different Cable Manufacturers/Cable Designs
The Focal / MAC sounds like a great combo. I have heard them individually but not together. I would definitely recommend the best DHLabs you can afford in each category. I wouldn’t be too focused on the exact material components. In inexpensive ca...
Amps that don’t impersonate space heaters.
My take on slam is that it is one of the first and easiest attributes of a high end system to detect. It is the very abrupt wave of bass high energy from, say a kick drum on a recording. But in general it is not real. It is typically an artifact o...
Are all streamers the same?
Yes, not all high end streamers are the same. First thing is, most high end streamers do not have DACs. Most high end DACs do not have streamers. Combining those functions compromise the sound quality of both. This has certainly been demonstrated ...
Whats playing on your system today?
Tord Gustavensen Trio, Extended Circle cut:Vesper. Incredibly moving.
Amplifier Power tubes - important to sound?
Well that is a perplexing concept… engineered in a way to prevent the tube character coming through. The only way I can think of doing that is to just power them but not put them in the audio circuitry… so, make them for show only.
Toe in is crucial
Proper toe-in is definitely one of the critical basics of speaker placement. I have the same speakers as you. Getting it right took me a long time… I was not in a hurry. Purchase of speakers… upgrading components and cables took a year until I fin...
DH Labs - Shunyata Cable Comparison
Thanks for your detailed description of your experiences with these cables. It can be a lot of work carefully choosing the right cables. But worth the effort.
Why can’t “Side A” and “Side B” be a bigger font?!?!
No problem, streaming is here, no two sides and the album photos can be enlarged on your iPad while playing.
Can hi-end cables benefit less expensive electronics?
@megabyte …”cables will affect higher end systems less than less well made (cheaper) systems”   Yes that sounds logical, but the reality is generally the opposite. The better (higher resolving, more carefully voiced) the more difference cables m...
