Are cable “upgrades” just as likely to make your system sound worse? Great example of how it is strongly dependent on your equipment. I had the privilege of auditioning a pair of Odin 2 in my system and they were the most amazing, musical, natural and detailed cables I have ever heard.
Do you think driver “break in” is real? Yes, there is definitely breakin on speakers. I have broken in at least half a dozen good speakers. Dynamic speaker’s bass tends to sound woolly and not fully developed at first. Tweeter can be harsh. I have never tried to attribute some portion o...
Golden Ears? Sorry for your loss. Small amounts of hearing loss (most often in the very high frequencies) to a very experienced listener have very little impact on enjoyment and skills in assessing audio systems. My female partner has always had better hearin...
Blue Jeans Cable Iconoclast I have tried Blue Jean cables a few years ago. Over my 50 years pursuing high end audio, I have spent many hundreds of hours evaluating cables and their impact. I have a good system and can pretty quickly characterized the impact of interconnects ...
Warm Up Time/Cost of Operation OP “…Thinking I will turn them on when listening in the morning casually, shut them off while at work, turn them on when I get back, and shut off when I go to bed…” This is a pretty good plan. You might also start a study to learn how much war...
How best to arrange cables in this room... @carlsbad2 Yes, always trade offs. Best would be to use monoblocks located next to speakers and use long interconnects. I am really luck my system is no longer in a common area.
Table top DAC and Amp advice needed Yes, for low budget gear, Schiit is an excellent choice. I have a few around for misc duty.
How best to arrange cables in this room... @carlsbad2 +1 …”Equal length cables are always recommended, I’ve played with un-equal length and never been able to hear the difference. ” I have to agree. While I did not do this when I was tremendously experienced with high end audio....
Is there miracles in audio experience ? 😊👌
Is there miracles in audio experience ? I think I know what you mean, but we would use very different language. I only use the word miracle in fun. If I do something well, that I typically do poorly, “It’s a miracle I did it correctly”! In reality, I was trained and worked as a scienti...
Primer on SSD and internal hard drives An SSD drive is very likely to sound better than a hard drive. But a high quality streamer will gather the music off the hard drive and shut it down when playing. With a high quality streamer there should be no difference in sound quality betw...
Is Aurender N10 still a good option @willywonka The new N30SA is newer… however the W20SE is still made and sounds better (not by a huge amount… I imagine some folks would prefer not having a battery, which I am sure is why they released it). The N30SA does not use a battery li...
Benchmark or McIntosh.... 👍 outstanding!
Speaker Cable Recommendation @riie 😊
Is Aurender N10 still a good option The N10 is a very good streamer. There have been sound quality improvements in the next generation. Some folks have said the N200 and N10 sound very similar. But the N10 is a fully fleshed out streamer. I would buy the N10. Then in ten years or so... |
