Review: Quad 57
You guys really ought to hear the Quad 57s without their metal grills and without their plastic dust protectors. Both of which really do vibrate like a bastard. I used to have Quads back when, between LS3/5Aa and Fultons; I had all Class A tube am...
Cable Costs Relative to System
Kijanki is exactly right. Velocity of electrons in copper audio wire with signal flowing through it is about a meter an hour.
does import cds sound better
Super High Material should probably be Super High Transparency Material inasmuch as the clear layer is a special polycarbonate formulation with higher (optical) transparency than the standard stuff.
Still mystified by mega expensive power cords
How many cable companies employ cryogenics and/or cable burn-in machines, one wonders? Can a $100 cryo'd and burned in power cord beat a $200 stock power cord. Can it beat a $400 stock power cord. That's what I'd like to know.
Best Amp for Timbre, Depth and Spatial Resolution?
Total Harmonic Distortion - irrelevant. Frequency Response - irrelevant. Slew Rate - irrelevant. Channel Separation - irrelevant. Intermodulation Distortion - irrelevant.
Interconnect Cables for Pre-and Power amp
I've got the Analysis Plus Oval Micro IC and like it very much with Bada Headphone amp and modded and tricked out Oppo 103.
Best Amp for Timbre, Depth and Spatial Resolution?
Nglazer, do folks demand to see the specs when buying a new TV? Of course not. That would be absurd, right? Only someone who hasn't quite figured out if he can hear the difference would be so interested in specs. Heck, people don't appear overly c...
Best Amp for Timbre, Depth and Spatial Resolution?
Zd542 wrote,"Yes, but with TV's, the salespeople usually adjust the TV's they want to sell as best they can, and "detune" the other ones."You get a gold star for the funniest post of the thread so far.
Best Amp for Timbre, Depth and Spatial Resolution?
Julian hirschMglazer wrote,"It was Julian Hirsch (RIP), a highly respected reviewer for decades. He did not say that amps (or any other compnents) that measure the same, sound the same. What he did say was that if the measurements of two amps were...
Best Amp for Timbre, Depth and Spatial Resolution?
Who was the bullet headed reviewer dude at Stereo Review way back when who swore up and down that amps that measure about the same sound about the same? Lots of laughs!
Best Amp for Timbre, Depth and Spatial Resolution?
For soundstage look no further than Sound Lab, the big Snells, original Quads, the big Rockports, the big Kharmas, even the itty bitty LS3/5As.
CD player vibration from CD's
I have been using three 1 inch strips of black plastic tape applied radially on CDs for some time. I suspect the tape reduces vibration of the CD whilst spinning. Of course there are a number of CD mats that address vibration, too.
IMO the two best tracks to demo or test any system
Re Led Zeppelin. Yup, me, too. Especially Mothership Disc 1 and Disc 2.
Use of footers on maple platforms
Not sure it's quite correct to say maple dissipates vibration, although It could in part. The main advantage of a maple board is to provide stiffness against low frequency vibration coming from the floor. Supporting the component as well as the ma...
Anyone here have a memory ?
Hmmm...What is this? Maraschino cherries. Mayonnaise. Laughing Cow cheese. I'm so hungry.
