Dolby NR encoding - did it ever work
Inna, I don't find that hard to believe, not at all. The problem is not with the CD, I mean except for all the dynamic compression we see going on, it's with the CD player. There are so many things wrong I could write a book.
£15k $22k to spend on speakers...but which?
A rich man has about the same chance of entering audio nirvana as a camel has of passing through the eye of a needle. Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-)
Gene Simmons says the rock business is dead
If it is dead, and I'm not saying it is, he killed it.
Dolby NR encoding - did it ever work
One thing about cassettes I am finding is they apparently escaped the fate of overly agressive dynamic compression that befell their compact disc bretheren. The cassettes are by and large more dynamic, more musical and highly entertaining compared...
Cable Cooking/Burnin
Ooops, of course I meant 500 hours. Schubert, how many days is that? My calculator's broken. So you don't tweak or mod? Well, good for you, Jack!
Cable Cooking/Burnin
I seriously doubt anyone can keep track of the sound of the system when breaking in cables unless he does absolutely nothing to the system during that entire time. Surely there must be at least some changes to the system in addition to cables. I h...
looking for truly transparent affordable amp s
Of course, transparency is not an actual audio parameter, at least not the last time I looked. Perhaps distortion or even THD or Signal to Noise Ratio or Channel Separation might be more appropriate, at least more uh measurable. I'm not even sure ...
Be honest please
Not any more than anyone else. Yes, I'm only joking.
Cable Cooking/Burnin
Good or bad? Haha! Good! There is no debate about it any longer. The debate occurred twenty years ago. :-(

Cable Cooking/Burnin
Cryoing I would think best described as dealing with the crystal structure of the metal. Maybe you could say just another form of tempering, like heat tempering. This is not to say that cryoing would not improve the performance of the other materi...
Cable Cooking/Burnin
Addendum: Besides, even if one burns in the cables fully whatever that actually means, there's still a very long way to go if the cables haven't been cryo'd. There are obviously other things involved with getting the max performance out of the cab...
Cable Cooking/Burnin
No matter how expensive the cables are and how long you burn them in ultimately the odds are that the sound will not be as good in many respects as the situation with *no cables per se*. By having *no cables per se* (only the tiny 1 meter ultralig...
Hi-Fi can be less expensive than anything
Oh, I dunno. Ask the guys with the Contunuum turntable or the $15,000 Koetsu cartridge or the $102,000 Walker Audio turntable if they think it's an expensive hobby.
Hi-Fi can be less expensive than anything
My two new systems - both portables - cost me a grand total of $30 including earphones. More money for software. Hahahaha!
