All of the woods you mention at least on terms of sonic results pale in comparison to real isolation techniques, and what I'm referring to here is mass on spring isoaltion. Of course, if you've made your mind up with respect to exotic woods you ca...
Cable Cooking/Burnin
Annealing and Thermodynamics (wiki page)Annealing occurs by the diffusion of atoms within a solid material, so that the material progresses towards its equilibrium state. Heat increases the rate of diffusion by providing the energy needed to break...
MRA : Myth or Menace?
I can certainly see where Mold Release Compound might be a problem for CDs, what with the transparency of the "clear layer" being an issue (assuming some of the MRC is absorbed by the polycarbonate) but I fail to see how MRC could be deleterious t...
Acoustic panels - how high?
It all depends on the geometry and the physics. In reality the second reflection points can be worse than the first ones. It all depends on the radiation pattern of the speakers, the dispersion pattern. That's why attention to the placement must b...
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable
I'm afraid it's not that easy. I have heard systems that did not reveal differences in cables. Who knows why? It's not a done deal that cable X will outperform cable Y even with all our convictions. C'est la vie! ;-)

I would not call cryo an annealing process. I would probably call it a mechanical stress relief process, among other things.

Actually, to be honest, the reason I mentioned ironwood or iron wood, whatever, is to suggest what I think is true, that many audiophiles believe that it's the density of the wood somehow that's responsible for the benefits to the sound. But that'...

All depends on what you're trying to do. Baltic birch is valued for its stiffness, which in itself is quite a good isolation parameter. Other woods I suspect have varying degrees of anti vibration behavior and or stiffness and of course it depends...
Cable Cooking/Burnin
It just occurred to me that the manufacturers of cable would be well advised to add heat tempering to the metal conductor manufacturing process in addition to cold tempering (cryo) which most of the high end cable companies already do. Just thinki...

Acoustic panels - how high?
oh, and another thing. not all panels are effective to the same degree and some panels do more harm than good. I wont mention any names but one of those that are ineffective is SONEX. it all kind of depends on what happens to the wave as it passes...
Acoustic panels - how high?
"stay at your listening position and have a friend move a mirror along the wall until the speaker sound emitting areas are centered in the mirror. This center point can then be used as the center point of the absorber panels."The problem with that...
MRA : Myth or Menace?
If they used teflon coated molds I kind of doubt they would need Mold Release Agent for either LPs or CDs. ;-)
Wow .... €50K Headphones ... What next
Gosh, wasn't it Sennheiser that had another really expensive set of headphones with amplifier twenty five or thirty years ago? You know, the ones everyone said was the Best in the World. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Favorite two CDs to listen to?
Radiohead Pablo Honey and B-52's Cosmic Thing.
