Best small, desktop speakers, $500 or under (new or used)
MAudio BX5s while powered, are a great little desktop monitor. Put out a great tight image with impressive low end. Plus, you can add a sub to them if you want. Great bang for the buck for a powered monitor.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@spiritofradio... Sonos isn’t THAT bad!? ;-)
What is up with Audio Research during the pandemic?
Let’s keep the political BS where it belongs... all points of view. This is a HIFI site, not Covid-19 debate squad. As to ARC. They are fine, I spoke with them a few days ago. Give them time. Everything is slower these days...

Matching fully balanced with unbalanced.
I prefer the single outs/ins on my system. Long cable runs are not an issue for me, and really the primary reason to run the “balanced” outs/ins is mostly this. Also, as mentioned, few systems are truly “balanced” anyway...
What Are Your Experiences with Decoupling Products and Your Recommendations?
Yep, Herbie’s slider pucks for me... easy and inexpensive. They just work.
RMAF 2020 is Cancelled
This Covid thing is getting out of hand. It really is. So many industries are dying on the vine. To be cancelling that far out, rather than at least trying to reschedule smacks of what is going on in my state (CO). The very simple reality is, we d...
What Percentage Off Would You Expect to Discount For Open Box Amp with Blemish
If it’s a usually easy selling product you would be lucky to get it much above 20% off. Depends on the blem too.
Just confused
I wouldn’t spike anything to concrete/tile. I use Herbie’s Audio Lab sliders under my speakers on ceramic tile they work great and you can tweak your speaker position much more easily.
Catridge for sme 30/2
Don’t worry, an SME 30 is almost plug and play. The table looks complicated, but really isn’t. If your 30 has a V arm just setup as described and it’s actually pretty easy. There aren’t the cart issues that other arms have as the head is not slott...
Do we ask too much of our audio systems?
Having a “system” sound “live” will never happen. It’s more a trek to get the most out of the given recording, whatever the source. No matter the system, it will only produce what information it is given. Good or bad...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
I’m adding an AR tube pre to my system tomorrow. Very interested to see how it sounds.
How many people here generally buy used?
Generally used. Downside of used is selection, so one needs to be patient. I believe most audiophiles take very good to excellent care of their equipment so buying used isn’t quite the crap shoot as much car might be. Like others, I look for the g...
Recommendations for a stereo power amp with a XLR/RCA input switch around $2k
Second Parasound. The A21 or A21+ would be a good choice. They offer what you ask.
