“Marks on the underside”
Oh yeah, I forgot the buyer who wouldn't buy an item if there wasn't any warranty from the manufacturer. As I told him, 'Then why are you buying used'?B
“Marks on the underside”
Unfortunately, losers pop up on Ebay.I sold a vintage camera lens and the buyer reported it not working. He ended getting a working lens and I got his garbage lens in return.I knew he was scamming me as he said it happens every time.I reported it t...
Tweeters are silent on my Wilson audio Sofia 2
@OP,Please ignore the above comment. The rest of Audiogon is here to help.Bob
Help teach an old dog new tricks
@northwoods_maine ,Nice that you posted your Ayre Player. It has the ability to output to an external DAC, via a switch, I believe. In that case, I would recommend getting either an Ayre Codex.I have no doubt that you will not only enjoy your CD's ...
Help teach an old dog new tricks
@northwoods_maine ,Now that is a change of scenery! As for Bluesound customer service, I have found them to be very helpful. Though it sometimes takes a few days for them to catch up with emails. All in all, the Node(original model) still works grea...
Options for $1k or less DAC?
@bajaed ,The Node's internal DAC isn't bad for the money, but if you do go the Schiit route- buy the Gungnir or Yggy. Anything lower and you'll be spinning your wheels- IMHO.Probably better to find a used Codex.Bob
Best bookshelf speaker?
Vandersteen VLR is my pick. With a Belles Aria integrated, and some William Tell cables, it really sings.-Even without a sub.I didn't believe it until I heard it with my own ears at Audioconnection.B
Adding a subwoofer should be glorious, not obvious
I use Vandersteen subs, and I never had an issue with the subs being 'non-integrated'. The use of a first order crossover is so simple and effective, I don't understand why more sub manufacturers don't use it, as well.It also frees the amplifier f...
Options for $1k or less DAC?
A used Ayre Codex would be my recommendation.-Switching from Spotify to Qobuz will show a definite improvement upon sound quality.B
Speaker suggestions under 4k
Are you willing to start from scratch?-Sell your amp and pre?Do you have flexibility in your budget?A quick HifiShark seem to show that selling the remaining pieces of equipment should yield you another $2K.So, that would make it $6K available.Now...
Interconnects under floor?
I forgot I use those wall plates, too.Yes, they work, but unfortunately let in some of the cold air from my basement. Adding some fiberglass insulation helped. And, no mice ever tried to climb up there-most were content to nibble on the bait I lef...
Running a preamp into another preamp
Whoa, I would try PM'ing Ralph Karsten (atmasphere).I do know he has experience with recording, as well as experience with building stereo equipment. Plus, he is a nice guy who can explain things in terms we mortals can understand.Bob

My take...Buy a Bluesound Node, any iteration is good (I own the original Node-cube, and it works as it should).Buy an Ayre Codex. You'll have a wide range of streaming services and the Ayre will give you a higher quality play back than the incorpo...
Extending the cabling of my left channel
What is your system comprised of?What size room and length of cable? This info would help in giving a recommendation. As far as splice/soldering wire, I wouldn't recommend it. In general, it is considered best practice to have both channels to have ...
Harbeth 40.2 or Vandersteen Quatro CT
@karmapolice ,I don't think you will be disappointed. If space is an issue, you can do as I have and buy the Treo's and add a pair of 2wq subs-which is probably in the price range you mentioned, if buying used. Though a pair of Sub 3's would probab...
