Do CD-R's play on your player? If no, why not? Madrigal says that their Levinson M37 transport will not (or may not?) play CD-Rs, but mine does. In fact I've never had a CD-R that didn't play in the M37. Like Swampwalker, I use "Audio" CD-Rs mostly, but others have sent me computer burned CD-R...
best remote preamp for McCormack amp Yeti; If you're willing to consider a tube pre-amp, I've used the Sonic Frontiers Line 2 with a McCormack DNA-2DX for over 2 years, and then with the DNA2 up-graded to Rev. A for about a year now. I highly recommend this combination, and I also ha...
Balanced vs RCA preamp output Hi Johnny; it appears that you need a dissenting opinion. I have a fully balanced Sonic Frontiers Line 2 pre-amp and fully balanced McCormack DNA-2 Rev. A amp-- both also have RCA outputs. I've tried both balanced (XLR) and the more common RCA, an...
Headphone Amp. for Sennheiser HD 580 headphones... I have a Headroom Supreme that sounds great with Senn. 600 headphones. The Supreme is a compact model made for travel, but it works well at home too. $400.- $500. new. Cheers. Craig
best digital cable I much prefer the Cardas AES/EBU digital cable to the Madrigal AES/EBU between Levinson transport and DAC. The Cardas is more "musical". The Madrigal is much more analytical. Cheers. Craig
Looking for a tube preamp that is 1700 or less. Hi Tony; I have used the SF Line 2 for almost 3 years now and can highly recommend it. But if you'te looking for a sort of euphonic "classic tube sound", the Line 2 probably isn't it. If you haven't read the Stereophile review on the Line 2, I'd r...
My first amp purchase Hi Jason; Driver gives good advice, and I agree. One route you might consider though is a McCormack DNA amp that should last forever, but is also up-gradable to almost any level anyone could ever want. Steve McCormack @ www.smcaudio.com-- check th...
my girlfriend & I tried over 10 diff positions Hi Justlisten; I too was expecting something "different" on reading your salacious intro., but now that I've cooled down, congrats on the new speakers. And I agree about 110% that a huge part of good quality music has to do with speaker placement....
Power cords .........IMO, it may be a "matter of belief", but the belief is based on: 1. having an open mind 2. trusting one's senses 3. learning critical listening skills 4. having equipment capable of showing differences between/among wires, components, twe...
Any tricks to keep cats away from speaker grills? We couldn't bring ourselves to having our cat declawed either, but after she climbed my Vandersteen 3Asigs (cloth on all four sides) 2-3 times, I kept chicken wire around them for over a year. It looked like hell but was very effective. BTW, when ...
Any funny audiofile stories??? I had chicken wire-- that's right chicken wire, completely around my Vandersteen 3Asigs (the 3As have cloth on all four sides) for over a year to keep our kitten from climbing them anymore. The cat had climbed them several times. The chicken wire ...
Levinson separates vs. Audio Aero Capitole Craigza; you said it well, and Sean did too. Yours was an excellent and informative comparison. I have used the Levinson M37 transport and 360S DAC for over a year now and consider them to be sonically excellent. I have not heard the Capitole. If ...
Does a CD Transport need to be HDCD ALSO? All of the "bit decoding" is done by the DAC. I use the ML 37 transport and 360S DAC, and the HDCD reading is done by the DAC alone. I've also used Sony and Pioneer CD players as transports for the 360S and it had no problem reading the HDCD info....
Most eye-opening upgrade and what you learned Hi Judit and welcome to A'gon. Good thread. I've made maybe five pretty important audio discoveries, but maybe THE most important has been AUDIOGON. That said:1. I discovered tubed pre-amps, and the fact that a high quality front-end really is ess...
Wiring two post speakers with biwire cable For this proposal to make sonic sense, don't the speakers have to be already set up for bi-wiring, ie have an internal cross-over built in to accomodate it? I can see why you could attach the wires as proposed, but can't see any advantage to it wi... |
