Bookshelf Recommendations LS50 is recommended by many, but be a little cautious. I have owned them and the wireless ones as well, one thing they don't do is timbre. Speakers like Harbeth, Proac, Reynaud etc do timbre, the LS50 is a all-around good speaker, but not for afic...
Why the facination with integrated amps? The price of good cables (ic and pc) plus good equipment support (space issue) is enough to go for an integrated.
Do people really just not get it that their items are not selling... Mint loudspeaker stands also sell only at -60 %. There is no logic in this business.
Nordost Sort Kones I have tried three Sort BCs under many things and they always impart their highs emphasizing, bass tightening, image sharpening coloration to everything. They sure do work, unfortunately I always heard what happens as coloration.
Classical Music for Aficionados Britten: Peter Grimes, conducted by Britten/Decca. An outstanding 1959 recording of the popular opera.
Aftermarket Fuses Tipped up highs and tighter or less bass is "better" to many people with (too) big speakers in damped rooms. And those qualities are not difficult to get with an aftermarket fuse.
We Need A Separate Forum for Fuses They are interesting little things for sure but in a carefully balanced system they can tip the balance to an undesirable direction. Many people have systems and rooms where any brightness seems to be welcome and is perceived as "detail".
Best sounding compact integrated amp < $2k? The Hegel H90's DAC is very good as long as you use the spdif rca input. Usb input is the culprit. I own the amp and it certainly belongs to the top3.
Which integrated amp? Why not the new Hegel H190? Hegel's price-performance is incredible.
How important is component “aesthetics” to you? I personally find it cheesy to get a stereo system with matching colors just for the sake of... matching colors.
Graphene in fuses and cost Synergistic Research - endorsed by Tom Cruise. That and the fact that my two Black fuses blew in three weeks is enough to avoid them.
Spendor, Harbeth...why so hot ? I’d recommend without hesitation Harberths for anyone listening mainly or only to classical. But that can’t be the reason to their fame.
Glare on Choral recordings, classical vocals Human voice and violin. The two most difficult things to reproduce. I think the problem is a combination of your dac and room acoustics. Do you have a chance to try headphones? The Swedish Proprius label has some of the most glorius choral recordin...
Synergistic Red Fuse ... I bought two Black fuses for my Electrocompaniet amp. Selected higher than the suggested rating, two steps higher for the one inside the amp. They both blew in three weeks. There was a difference for sure, more detail in the highs, it was showing p...
Best female vocal recording on CD? Dianne Reeves, the most talented female singer with the letters D-I-A-N in her name. Her live recordings are the ones to look for. |
