Seamzeazy record jacket repair
Great product, just yesterday I had to try and bodge this using a bit of tape applied from the inside but this is much neater and more secure -- my order is placed!ps LP was the Heron "Twice as Nice ..." which has to exemplify the most shoddy pack...
Advise on TT Support Platform
@robes I think the source of some concern is regarding seismic vibration. Turntables are very sensitive to this sort of interference from construction, traffic or micro-quakes. The arrangement you are proposing risks exacerbating the effect of sei...
MONO cartridge recommendation
@wrm57 my step up is 1:10 (20dB) which works well for me with 45dB of gain in my phono stage and an additional 12dB available in my pre-amp if needed, I have the volume control at 35-45% of range
MONO cartridge recommendation
@wrm57 sorry I do not use a custom cable. Perhaps you are thinking of this advice on the topichttp://www.durand-tonearms.com/Support/Mono%20connections/monoconnections.htmlI actually tried this and it did not work for me. I found that either using...
Do you listen mainly to Audiophile CDs and records?
I think the post “forgiving vs resolving” misses the point. At this level (let’s presume a well put together six figure system) resolving is a given. The choice is between resolving in an analytic versus musical sense. The former will render your ...
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
@jollytinker while @rauliruegas and I may have different opinions on what makes for a good sounding phono stage my observation was merely to assure you that adding a low gain step up is a valid approach You will have to take into account the cost ...
Do you listen mainly to Audiophile CDs and records?
@rvpiano exactly. Which is why I run a second tonearm and cartridge in my system set up specifically for mono. The sound quality of fifties mono classical is astounding and is some of the best I have. I also revel in listening to Casals for exampl...
Do you listen mainly to Audiophile CDs and records?
If you find your system is limiting what you can listen too it’s a sign the system is weak in some area. Well configured systems will bring out the merits in even poorly recorded material.
On Step Ups and the Importance of Managing Gain
I believe it would make sense. Some of the best phono stages use a transformer gain stage first to match the cartridge. Take for example the Tenor phono stage which has a 4 Times (ie 6dB) transformer stage as the first step in amplificationhttp://...
How important is the rack you use for your components
@randy-11 -- nice, but requires a pump and air supply to operate. Also I worry that they require a fairly hefty minimum load.
A New Ground -- Benefits of introducing the Synergistic Research Active Ground Block SE
@jea48 well yes, the "safety ground" is used as a common point of reference for all the connected components, but you could just as well use a box of dirt a la Entreq or the or the special mix Verastarr are working on (http://www.monoandstereo.com...
Can't set rake angle right even lowest VTA (digital microscope checked)
@hdm i think you are dead on. I suspect the issue the OP has is that he’s not able to take an accurate measurement. With many stylus profiles it is very hard to see where to draw the line. I used to own an Air Tight in which the back of the stylus...
A New Ground -- Benefits of introducing the Synergistic Research Active Ground Block SE
@jea48 i suspect you may be misunderstand how these systems work. They have no effect on nor relation to the safety ground. As @ozzy has observed even passive ground solutions give results, consider for example the Entreq units which have no conne...
How important is the rack you use for your components
As @newbee points out the effect is system dependent. In a more resolving system the impact may be substantial. For example in my system each step in moving my VTL power amps from spiked Grand Prix Audio Monaco stands to Apex (ball) footers and th...
A New Ground -- Benefits of introducing the Synergistic Research Active Ground Block SE
The active ground block has active components inside as well as a ground connection. By the way the general rule with active SR components is to never disconnect them if at all possible. Once disconnected and reconnected the fields in the cables t...
