Digital coax cable, real world experiences?
@uberwaltz had the 72V DBS battery been disconnected? If so it takes 48-72 hours after connecting it back up for the field to form and settle, before that the cable will sound edgy and disjointed. So please give it a few days to form a final opinion
"Straight" talk
@lewm not sure you read the entire piece, you need to click on the link "Tips to Set Azimuth" and Joel explains what to do and why his preferred approach using solo mono vocal differs slightly from the classic 1KHz/Foz approach (which has nothing ...

Re results that end up canted. As I’ve posted before while I own a fozgometer I much prefer (and get better results from) aligning azimuth by ear using this method. http://www.durand-tonearms.com/Support/Support/azimuth.html

@stringreen sorry, too clever for me 😀 I’d assumed you were referring to the classic horizontal cartridge top when viewed from the front! Now you explain it makes sense
"Straight" talk
Good point Stringreen but I worry that the title you have chosen for this thread might be a little misleading? In many cases ideal azimuth may be anything but straight -- I've had a significant number of carts that need to be canted well off to on...
Sound correction in small room
It’s not clear from your post which wall you have the speakers on but I think it’s the short wall. Have you tried them on the long wall? My room is a similar size to yours and this works very well for me You can use the Cardas speaker placement gu...
Vibration Issues / Turntable Decisions
You could try isolating the table on a sub shelf on something like these https://www.audiogon.com/listings/tweaks-townshend-audio-seismic-isolation-pods-isolation-feet-2017-... i also suspect the marble surface is making the problem worse
Vibration Issues / Turntable Decisions
Sounds more like an issue with the room and the stand you have the table on than with the table. Is a wall mount out of the option?
Stylus force digital scales
@lewm it may not be an issue of interaction with the pan but an effect upon the mechanism itself, I guess you might know by seeing if bringing the cartridge close to a previously loaded pan reduced the measured weight?
Looking for info on aftermarket fuses
One suggestion in the case of Synergistic Research fuses is to consider going up one rating (I.e. 625mA for 500mA and so on) to avoid losing a fuse to switch on surges. I’ve lost many SR blacks when putting in the rated size, all to switch on surg...
Stylus force digital scales
@lewm as I said in my last post my experience is that even scales with non magnetic pans suffer from magnetic interactions. I own several scales with such pans and all read differently than my all plastic options (cartridge man and rega) - and all...
Stylus force digital scales
@jbny  unless you have calibration weights that are magnetic and non magnetic you will not see the effect we’ve been discussingmy scales all weigh the same with calibration weights, but once you use a MC cartridge it’s a different matter. And most...
Stylus force digital scales
@lewm funny thing is I even find this with audiophile approved scales with non ferrous pans. They record exactly the same with a static weight like a screw but once I load them with a cartridge they’re all over the place. Could it be that the stro...
Stylus force digital scales
The problem I have with all metal scales is that they over read cartridge load by appx. 0.1g probably due to the effect of the cartridge magnets. The new Rega scale is plastic so does not have this effect and appears well designed for long term ac...
Why do better MC cartridges cost a fortune?
Active isolation like the Herzan (or similar from many others including KSI who make Vibraplanes) offers 99% isolation in all six dimensions. Passive such as Vibraplane maxes out at 95% or so and more effective in vertical than horizontal. Also la...
