Opinions Needed: Hales vs. Tannoy The Tannoy D700's are excellent speakers. I prefer these to almost all except the D900's and my Altec 601's. Sound in very accurate and play as one voice throughout the full frequency spectrum. No need for "warm" speaker cables!
Stands or no stands All speakers I've had sounded better with stands. I use 4 to 6 inch stands under all of the ones I own, but have not own any Heresy's.
Listening to digital and analog I suppose Propofol could help with this dilemma...
Opinions Needed: Hales vs. Tannoy I personally like Tannoy. You are the one that should make the choice by listening, as sound is very subjective.
Music for setting up speakers rodman - He may be obtuse, but he's accurate for initial setup. My 2¢ 😁
Duntech PCL-3 on-wall will xover at 80hz make easier to drive Don't worry about a DMM, I just wondered if you could measure the impedance of the Duntech PLC-3's.I believe imhififan has the correct solution; Set speakers to small and add a subwoofer. +1 imhififan.
Audioquest Two ended Bi-Wire terminations Whatever you do, do NOT use bi-wire (dual) cables for bi-amping if any of the four conductors are connected together! You will damage your amp or amps.

Phasing a biamp system What speakers and amps are you using?
Music for setting up speakers murphythecat - Your suggestion to use pink noise is a very good one. I’m not sure many in this forum understand what you are saying though. You can use pink noise with just your ears, I’m sure you would agree. Of course a mic and SPL would be better.
Duntech PCL-3 on-wall will xover at 80hz make easier to drive I can't imagine these speakers are "hard to drive". Do you have a DMM and can you measure the dc resistance. To me 50 watts should be plenty. If you are expecting these to produce deep bass, well they won't. Yes a sub will improve the sound, but y...

Music for setting up speakers How much time do you want to spend before listening? Tweaks and test equipment can be used later. If you want to get it up and running, tape measure and some music you are familiar with. Something with vocals is always quite revealing.
warmest speaker cables you've heard? My question is why would you want "warm" speaker cables? Don't you want accuracy? If you want warm sound, just turn the treble tone control down or use an EQ. |
