Different gain on 2 amps.
I should have asked that. What IS your source anyway? You would find a much easier time with a Roon enabled player or something that had nothing to do with your main pre-amp/amplifier. at all. I use this kind of arrangement with Logitech Media Ser...
Best DIY silver solder?
I wouldn’t use solder for speaker cables. I would however use excellent crimp rings as well as sweat the heat shrink. WBT and Furutech both have this type of arrangement. Having said that, My favorite by far is still Cardas, but I’m not sure if it...
Different gain on 2 amps.
So I read up on your VAC amp. The gain is LESS via XLR, so if you can swap cables, you can reduce the output somewhat. Best,Erik
Different gain on 2 amps.
The issue is more than gain of the amps, but also sensitivity of the speakers. :)In typical audiophile fashion, you should get less sensitive speakers for your listening room. :D :D :D One thing to watch out for though is tube preamps don't like t...
Environmental Potentials whole house surge protection, can I get your opinions?
Hi OP,Many of them are panel brand specific, so I would consult with your electrician as to whichever is best for your needs. They all work on the same parallel principle, with MOV’s AFAIK. Not perfect, but they work much better at the panel than ...
Wireless speakers causing negative growth on Surround sound systems?
I don't think the two are related. HT has it's own issues. The driver for more channels and more formats in a world dominated by an apartment dwelling budget minded audience doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Doh, left system off all night
Hi @lalitk My amps were the one thing that have not been turned off in weeks. :) The two components which were included a Mytek Brooklyn and Parasound P7. Best,Erik
Environmental Potentials whole house surge protection, can I get your opinions?
Hi gdnrbob,After reading the specs I am concerned that the data may be a little misleading. They call it a "whole house" but based on the specs, I think it's a series mode unit. If it IS in fact a series mode unit, each of these "hole house" devic...

Non shielded interconnects for connecting to tube integrated gear
@randy-11Depends on the entire circuit! The output impedance of the pre and input impedance of the amp, as well as the remaining reactance of the cable without the shielding. Krell’s CAST is a design specifically designed to eliminate such issues ...
Doh, left system off all night
Interesting.  I really didn't end up liking it that much last night. Today it's certainly better.Interestingly, my amps, Class D, stayed on during all of this, so whatever I'm hearing it's between the source and preamp.Best,Erik
Need recomendation for an IC to fill out and enrich the sound between amp and pre-amp.
Whether XLR reduces noise or not has to do with how noisy things were in the first place. At short runs they will be identical in performance. Of course, some gear is balanced in such a way that XLR inputs make a difference in circuit behavior. Tr...
Non shielded interconnects for connecting to tube integrated gear
Clearly I was too busy driving to write correctly. :) I meant to say:"Shielding adds a tiny bit of capacitance in exchange for reducing the chances of EMI/RFI noise." Best,Erik
Non shielded interconnects for connecting to tube integrated gear
It's not entirely snake oil, but it's not necessarily just for tubes, and not necessarily better.  Shielding adds a tiny bit of capacitance to the cable at the risk of extra EM/RFI noise. If you can get away without the shielding it might be bette...
The new OPPO Digital UDP-203 question
@mtrot That's good to know, I haven't seen any, but I wasn't looking, assuming there were none in existence. :)
