How do you know if your amp is putting out @ Rated Wattage ?
To get 2x the perceived volume you need 10x the power. :) 2x the power is only 3 dB louder. Best,Erik

Remember to re-calibrate after  you add room dampening. If you have concrete walls and floor you have your work cut out for you. :) -E

I'm afraid I'm all digital here. Can anyone comment on the Sony with Copland conducting? Thanks! Erik
Power Cable DIY - Please advise
My experience with Furutech banana plugs was really pretty negative, so I don’t use them for anything. Have not tried their other products. I would go with Neotech or Cardas for connectors on either end. Also, use shielded cables. Connect the grou...
Filter tweak for digital backwash?
And, just a little rant.... Stereophile KNOWS this but still tests DAC's with battery powered laptops. Gahh!
Filter tweak for digital backwash?
OH! Almost forgot to mention, it has been shown that a lot of the noise from a laptop or PC isn't "noise" so much as a ground loop. Obviously, it looks like noise, but the fix is entirely different. For these you need a ground loop isolator. Here ...
Filter tweak for digital backwash?
The least expensive unit I recommend, based on a lot of research this one:http://amzn.to/2h9R4Z4Series mode power surge suppression also includes noise reduction that works down to about 3kHz, and that noise reduction is bi-directional.  Most nois...

Smaller speakers but not smaller sound is my goal. :)  The LM-1 kit I posted is a reference quality monitor but specifically designed for a bookshelf or desktop.  By making a "true bookshelf" it has a lot of advantages for sounding great, sounding...

Sorry about the broken link, there's an extra https:// at the end. The correct one is here:https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2016/01/introduction-to-georgia-tech-leach.html

80 Hz should be fine. What are your alternatives? :) The only thing you gain by going up is you reduce the power required slightly.  Much higher than 100 Hz and you'll start to be able to hear the subs. That's not what I would worry about at all. ...

There is a software solution, ffmpeg, that should be able to tell you whether a track is redbook, HDCD tagged but not used, and real HDCD. It's not that useful unless you want to conserve disk space though. :) I mean, it's kind of academic. Best,E

It’s quite possible some real HDCD disks also never did the labelling. :) I could check my recordings, I suppose, but meh, it’s all automated. That Patricia Barber CD with the HDCD label really IS HDCD though. :) Sorry I think there’s some misund...

All the evidence I see so far points to:- PM gear in mastering process turns HDCD flag on.- Engineers don't use any features- CD's get mastered with HDCD "data tag" but no features used. - Label gets printed without HDCD because it's not real. - S...

Hi @ptss Well thank you kindly. I was very fortunate to be able to observe a true master, Dr. Marshall Leach Jr. when I was very young. That exposure sparked a life-long interest. My humble memorial to him is here. Later on I was able to work in c...

@dtc I'm sure the mistakes were honest. :) I only meant to point out that many think they've discovered unmarked HDCD disks (like a bonus track on an album) when in fact they are plain-Jane Redbook CD's. This is probalby why they don't have HDCD b...
