Speaker phase observation and question? @twoch is right. Especially minimalist tube preamps. A single stage, single ended gain stage always inverts.
Measurements - Clearly Explained Hi Wolf! Those are always great finds. But as an engineer, anything that sounds good, I'd like to know why so I could replicate it, whether or not it goes with established dogma. Like, maybe it adds plenty of 2nd order distortion, or has noise in t...
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions And thanks everyone for playing with me regarding these caps. I'm going to leave this project alone for a long time. Perhaps if I get a sponsor to try some much more expensive copper foil caps I'll come back. Best,E
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions Hi audio4pass,I measured and simulated the effects of the bypass caps. There's no perceptible change in phase or amplitude. I can't explain the added ...not necessarily warmth, but liquidity, in the midrange by adding the 0.1uF cap. I agree, the M...
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions Hi everyone,So I’m pretty much done listening to the CMR’s, and ready to give a verdict in my system. Oddly, I find the case colors of the MR and CMR line exactly opposite of how they sound. the Red CMR sounds cool, while the blue MR sounds warm.T...
Measurements - Clearly Explained Hi Ahendler, I'm not sure how much voicing you think happens without tools, but yes, the point to the links and simulations is to help the layperson see exactly what the amplifier/speaker interaction is like in terms of impedance and output. Best,E
Measurements - Clearly Explained Hi Everyone,I put together simulation files. If you have a PC or at least a Windows VM you should be able to grab the XSim crossover software (free!) and these files and play around yourself. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/307912-simulat...
Class D is just Dandy! Thanks Autre! I had not really noticed the ASC line before, interesting. Half the damping factor, with ratings for minimum speaker impedance. Apparently designed to be less rugged, but also offer a universal supply (ASP has a jumper to select).
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test?? Hi Al,There are flat impedance speakers out there, which is often accomplished with additional impedance normalizing circuits in the crossover. Certainly a niche. In these cases it is rightfully argued that the output impedance of amplifiers will ...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test?? @atmasphere I am saying your entire argument is bunk, because the ideal audio amplifier is a voltage source, not a current source. In essence you are also arguing for amplifiers of TINY damping factor being ideal. Not supported by anyone but you....
Class D is just Dandy! autre,ICEPower AS/ASP is very very good.Hypex definitely has some improvements in output impedance, but whether this is a good or bad thing is going to be a matter of amp/speaker synergy. I would say that the current crop is so good you owe it to ...
Apartment Dweller's Paradise - The Ideal 2 ch. system? Please keep things in balance, part of the goal of this is affordability. If you can buy a $100k stereo system, I doubt you are living in a small apartment.
Apartment Dweller's Paradise - The Ideal 2 ch. system? Man, you guys have a lot of rent money. :) The Magico M1S really is at the very top of physical size I would be able to keep in my apartment. Best,E
Apartment Dweller's Paradise - The Ideal 2 ch. system? Oh, I like the Audio Notes! Also like the Seas A26 kit a great deal. Best,E
Thinking of replacing my Bat spaceheater with class D, real world thoughts please I guess to re-phrase my answers:I don’t know of any reason why you should NOT consider a Class-D or hybrid (NuForce) amplifier. I also don’t know you’ll like them better. :) With the type of amp you have though I’m going to guess you have really g... |
