"Best" mini-monitor?
Talk to Fritz, he makes lots of great speakers, and those Revelator woofers he uses are really nice and warm, with extremely high value relative too the parts he uses. His products are a steal. I really like Monitor Audio, but they may not have th...
Magico S5 vs KEF Blade 2 vs TAD Evo One vs YG Kipod II Sig w/pwr bass
Hi @fsmithjack I’ve heard the S1Mk II at Magico and my feelings are mixed, and curious. First, the good:Glass smooth mid to treble. VERY wide dispersionImpressive dynamic rangeThe not so good:VERY wide dispersion VERY low efficiencyBass peaks in l...
PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium Preamplifier. DESTROYS SPEAKERS!!
I'm not sure how a DC servo circuit would degrade sound if properly implemented, so it is disappointing to hear Bryston does not incorporate them. The worst case is of course capacitor coupled, but almost all tube preamps are anyway. Adding sensor...
Dunlavy Minimum Phase Mods
For people who don’t know, Bill invented OmniMic and XSim. He knows his stuff, so questions below are for my own education. I ask all of this not really knowing if ideal phase is all that beneficial. From what I have heard, I could not tell a diff...
Need help in tweeter ID
Ask over in www.diyaudio.com Lots of speaker builders there.
Sanders 10e
I concur. Amazing sound stage, but hard on your neck. :)  I really wish Roger had considered a way to improve that, like by splitting the panel and making a 2-way ESL, or adding some sort of a waveguide, but he's 100% committed to the basic form f...
PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium Preamplifier. DESTROYS SPEAKERS!!
I have to say I am scratching my head at the description of the episode here, as well as the user. There are major pieces missing from the description. According to Audiogon, this user has started two nearly identical threads, and never bought or ...
use same speakers for music and home theater
Hi Brian,You could use a regular A/B speaker switch, wired in reverse. Make sure to get a switch that only allows one pair of speakers to be in use at a time. If you do this, you could do this. But better solution IMHO is to get rid of the Gallo's ...
Test Equipment vs The Ear
@willemj While frequency response is the single most detectable aspect of a speaker's performance, it is not the only one. My ears are particularly sensitive to room acoustics and driver compression.  A measure not included in that. :) Best,E
Disappointed w/ Klipsch Heresy III. Now what?
I would not approach this as an equipment problem. The issue is speaker placement and room acoustics. Can you do anything on the latter?  If not, bring the speakers closer together and as far from the side walls as possible. You can experiment with ...
Test Equipment vs The Ear
Here is kind of what I am getting at. I used to work in food service. We had a certain amount of meat / sandwich. 2 oz or something like that.We had to weigh each portion. After the first week, my eye/brain mechanism had learned exactly what 2 oz ...
Test Equipment vs The Ear
I think it’s a straw man dichotomy. I think the bigger issue is that test equipment doesn’t get a job, subscribe to Hi Fi magazines and spend days worrying about their first speaker purchase. I think it is also important to note that tests become ...
Anyone have Bookshelf speakers mounted over top of their subs??
There are several professional acoustic articles about this, but yes, you get rid of nulls by using bass traps first, and then EQ becomes possible. The other way around, not so much.
Anyone have Bookshelf speakers mounted over top of their subs??
GIK is a great manufacturer, you are lucky to have them nearby. Bass traps remove the inevitability of nulls. :) You'll need EQ, but traps + EQ can really do wonders. I recommend you use a descending target curve, about 1-1.3dB/octave.Best,E
Anyone have Bookshelf speakers mounted over top of their subs??
Have you tried the inverted process ?If you lack measurement tools, which IMHO are essential,  you can put the sub where you sit, and you walk around the room until you hear the best bass. Then swap you and the sub. :)
