Nuforce STA200 hum noise, will a preamp solve it?
When I connect the ICs to the inputs on the amp, but do not connect them to the DAC or anything else, and turn the amp on, there is a hum noise .. This sounds like induced EM noise. It is caused by running the IC's too close to a large current...
Hum from Subwoofers
One forgotten source of ground loops is external coaxial cables, like to your Cable TV or Satellite dish. Make sure you unplug those too. They make inexpensive GL isolators but they depend on your devices. Best,E
Hum from Subwoofers
The question is if the hum is proportional to your volume control. If it is, then the hum is at least from there. It may be that your speakers don't have enough output at 60 Hz without the subs. Turn everything off and remove from the power everyt...
Oyaide or Furutech plugs
My experience with Furutech locking bananas was so bad I'll never use them again, so my vote is going to be anything BUT Furutech.Best,E

Why are the vocals on some records hidden behind the music on my system?
First, why spend all that on gear and not on room treatment?  Try putting soft things on the floor between and around the speakers. That can clear up a lot of mid/treble clutter. This is a free tweak, try it with pillows and blankets before invest...
Moving on from Parasound A21 (maybe?)
OP:My suggestion was not without a great deal of experience with the brand. Focal's choices in the parts you cannot see are less than optimal and bettered with modest upgrades. Best,E
How thick should the front baffle of speakers be?
While I think solid construction is important, another sometimes overlooked thing is keeping the speaker from moving in 3 dimensions. A woofer can make the whole speaker rock back and forth. YMMV of course depending on the mass of the speaker, but...
Moving on from Parasound A21 (maybe?)
Replace your tweeter and mid range caps. :)
How thick should the front baffle of speakers be?
The woofer should move, but no other part of the speaker! :) I think that it matters to some degree. A woofer exerts tremendous force on the cabinet. Any flexing in the front baffle could lead to Doppler-like effects as well as additional, uninten...
Dedicated 20 amp lines/should i use a sub panel
Besides having built-in noise cancelling features, and surge protection, another advantage to the sub-panel is that you end up with a star grounding scheme that is short, and therefore much less likely to cause differences in ground potential. The...
Dedicated 20 amp lines/should i use a sub panel
I don't think there's a big benefit, besides wiring alone, but there are some interesting options in terms of noise suppression and balanced power at the power panel. Check with your electrician.
Audio Research Reference 5SE modifications/bypassing output caps
Well, there’s "need" and there’s desire. I don’t know of ANY audio film caps that need to be bypassed at all. Anything you do from this point is really "desire" to change things. There is no absolute, objective best we can point to. If you like th...
New system has fatiguing, harsh high frequency sounds. How to fix?
I think the OP’s speakers are fine, if that’s what he likes. Dealing with room acoustics will make everything better. If the monitors are just used for music selection, maybe an iPad or Android driven music server would help. At least that way whe...
